I gave 5 stars to 3 memoirs in 2025. Monstrous is in graphic novel format and I read it on paper. I listened to audiobook CDs for Educated and I'm Glad My Mom Died. The latter is also read by the author, which I really appreciate for memoirs. I borrowed all three from the public library.

LRS I've already started checking dates on things as part of my decision-making process about how much I trust a source... 😬

Also every piece of human knowledge created between 2022 and the proper regulation of the bullshit machines is going to have to be quarantined with extreme prejudice, to stop this stuff cascading down to information stream forever. Like if everything asbestos touches also became asbestos.
I agree that we're likely setting ourselves up for a very long process of asbestos-like remediation efforts around "incredibly stupidly and carelessly implemented LLM tools that were rolled out after 2022"
I've noticed that people who use the inevitability argument always make comparisons to email and social media, never to NFTs or DDT.

I think the so-called "AI" stuff is going to be the tech version of asbestos: shoved in everywhere, expensive and time-consuming to remove.

"Oh. Well, what does your husband do?"
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Food waste is bad, I agree. But last week we were told that shelf-stable processed food is also bad. And giving workers free time to shop for and prepare fresh foods is bad because productivity. It’s a real (processed) pickle!

AFAIK I do not have dementia but I do have a large Tony's Chocolonely bar that I stashed in the home office and have been eating one chunk at a time all day.
my father has dementia and sometimes his actions can be alarming so when he kept going out to the garage i finally followed him only to discover he’d hidden the last of the banana cream pie in the spare fridge and keeps going for back for more bites

If not for the numbers I definitely could've gotten a few more years out of this, but two decades really isn't bad.

I don't know what happened on the internet last night and luckily for me, today is way too chock-full for me to find out! We have: swim practice (currently in progress), piano competition, away swim *meet*, Friendsgiving! 🎉

I'm quitting while I'm ahead with that Norway costume.

the funniest part of this is that no one was even saying Heinz is a good company that should be supported.

just that restaurant ketchup is a mess. lol

like I don't care how much bad accounting Heinz did it doesn't change the facts on the ground about ketchup????? THAT'S A DIFFERENT CONVO
Sometimes I actually agree when people say Bluesky is the most insufferable social network.

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.

The lingering mental impact of moving repeatedly: moments of panic when I hit "place order" before triple-checking that it's got the correct shipping address. Whew.

Sometimes the sites want to default back to prior locations (despite my best attempts!!) and it's made me paranoid.

I wonder about the impact of readers like me leaving Goodreads to switch to @thestorygraph.com

My account still exists there but I stopped updating it, and for me the transition was a fits-and-starts process rather than a clean break with a date I can pinpoint.

LRS was especially timely because the huge moon this week reminded me of the song and An American Tail for the who-knows-how-many-th time in my life. That movie really lodged in my psyche!

To this day, as a 41 year old woman, "Somewhere Out There" will reduce me to tears. He's just a little kid alone in the world and desperate to find his family and they miss him!
It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life
