just pointing out that the capitalist model could have spent 1.5 trillion dollars educating people but instead used it to try to eliminate the need to think

AI firms are, at present, hemorrhaging money at a rate we have never seen before in tech. The cost we pay isn’t even close to what it cost to built out an operate. Even if you just accept that it will eventually get cheaper — these companies still need to return on everything they’ve lost so far.

what is the end state? will robots find us cute, like a puppy? will ai care for and nurture us, like children or pets?

when the superior intelligence dominates, will we entertain it and give it companionship, in exchange for being coddled and protected; or euthanized when we don't work out?

overall agree with this take but less bullish on anthropic
i am very bullish on whoever buys anthropic when it runs out of runway, somewhat bullish on microsoft, perfectly neutral on goog, bearish on nvda, hyperbearish on meta, and do not have a word for how bearish i am on openai.

This should worry everyone.

“US officials contacted by Reuters were surprised by Trump's announcement and unaware of any ongoing military operations to enforce a closure of Venezuelan airspace.”

Trump’s failing faculties could walk the US into war.

The president has illegally declared war to stop fentanyl trafficking from a country that does not traffic that drug, claiming its leader is trafficking drugs himself, the day after pardoning a former leader of a country who is a convicted drug trafficker.

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

Demolishing the East Wing of the White House before finalizing plans for what will be built above its ruins is a near-perfect metaphor for Trump's approach to economic policy. The only difference is the wrecking crew doesn’t claim the rubble is evidence of unprecedented growth.

It should go without saying, but the president has no authority to do this, and anyone reporting the story needs to say as such.

There is no way to read these agreements, at a moment when the presidency is so obviously both lawless and unpopular, other than a willful collaboration by university administrators who see utility and purpose in the overreach by a flailing fascist government.
BREAKING: Northwestern University has agreed to pay the U.S. Treasury $75 million, over the course of three years as part of an agreement with the federal government to restore funding and end investigations into the university

The fundamental thing to understand about this administration is the president is a grumpy retiree. He has no interest in working anymore. Which leads to him being pissed that he is getting asked a question, pissed he has to show up and work, the scheming viziers running the show, etc..
