A thing I've been mulling over for a while:
- if you have a favourite airport in your country you are flying too much.
- if you can rate airports all over your continent you are flying way too much
- if you can rate airports all over the world you are flying way WAY too much
Climate change is real

Excellent advice on this 🧵 👇🏽

I'll add some of my own below.
If you're trying to cut costs one tiny way is : use less laundry detergent.

The measuring cups that come with detergent encourage us to use too much which is better for companies bottom line but bad for our wallets and our clothes.

You're gonna want to get dedicated measuring spoons

Of course it’s airborne.

This rejection of airborne pathogens reads like reactionary, emotional objections to the concept of miasma. That because miasma said infections were airborne, and miasma was wrong, infections must definitionally be not airborne. Which is not true.

This is the importance of buying the books we write and teach from university presses. The same administrations that don’t care about the humanities would be just as happy to have academic publishing handled by these companies. We can save our own publishing ecosystem- but we have to do it.
"academic publishing is dominated by profit-oriented, multinational companies for whom scientific knowledge is a commodity to be sold back to the academic community who created it... The dominant four collectively generated... $12 billion in profits between 2019 and 2024."

Somehow millionaires who want to be taxed more are ignored just the way my 'legitimate' concerns about many of this Government's policies are ignored. Too many Labour ministers and other MPs have sold themselves cheap at our expense.
UK millionaires say 'we want to pay more tax'.

Why is that UK govts only listen to the rich who resent paying tax and decent wages?

The rich can't feel secure whilst masses live in poverty. Poor people can't buy goods/services to boost the economy.

Plus if 'protest' is limited to marches those of us who can't march, for whatever reason, are automatically excluded from taking action. Which is counterproductive when there are so many different ways of protesting, and we need as many people as possible protesting in as many ways as possible.
Part of it is that a lot of folks need to rethink what protest means right now. It hurts us that people have a very narrow, often purely symbolic notion of what protest means. Mass marches are good, but we need so much more. We need more values-driven, direct material intervention.

Link's perma ban is wrong and should be reversed.

And what illustrates it being EVEN MORE WRONG, are recent suspensions with restoration with much much more egregious offenses in the same line of what Bluesky claims Link was banned over.

I heard about MRM’s terrible contract and I have heard that individuals have negotiated a more reasonable contract. But MRM didn’t change their boilerplate.

SFF writers can’t unionize, but I won’t send stories to them until their contract is fair for every writer. Solidarity is solidarity.
Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) — there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Absolutely right.
By mimicking Reform to win back support, the Labour government is making a serious mistake. This race to the bottom emboldens Farage, punishes vulnerable people, amplifies racism, and undermines those working to hold communities together.
