I put them in salads too. We eat a lot of them - cheap and yummy.

Wise French pharmacists! I was pretty sure that the ones I picked would be fine, having met the woman who picked the same type, but just didn't want to take the risk in the end. Had mushroom pasta with nice safe supermarket-bought chestnut mushrooms instead!

I've never seen so many! Apparently this year is unusually good for them locally - so you can't miss them. Mushrooms everywhere. Well, in the woods anyway :)

I've no idea what most of them are. Although I learnt a bit today - I met a woman picking boletes (most of which are edible). I then picked some later and took them home to eat, but we got cold feet and decided not to risk it! This is a great resource I found: www.wildfooduk.com/mushroom-gui...
Mushroom Guide
There are roughly 15,000 types of wild fungi in the UK. Our guide aims to help you identify the best to eat and the most important ones not to pick. Never rely on one source for mushroom…

I'm sure they'll be marking Prodem as a terrorist org soon 🤦‍♀️

Thank you! I cropped the original photo quite a bit because this was the most photogenic bit. They are amazing things.

Loads 'shrooms! 🍄🍄🍄

I only learned the words a few years ago, but I guess we just used to call them toadstools? My husband calls them Smurf mushrooms :)

Thank you Tom! It's cropped from a wider version but I liked this little bit of detail.

I've seen so many fly agaric mushrooms in the last couple of weeks - such a thrill seeing that flash of colour. The top of this one was all curled which made an interesting shape - love seeing the gills too.

The top of a bright red fly agaric mushroom curled over, showing its yellowy-white gills. Lots of little clusters of whatever the white dots are on top!

Thank you so much ☺️

Thank you! It was fortuitous timing with the sunset and movable log holding the fungi!
sophiecarr.bsky.social
Yup! Maybe they keep the ants and the spiders dry :)

Thanks Lee-Anne :) They are pretty nice mushrooms!

Thank you! Isn't nature just truly amazing :)

I couldn't get the camera low enough so was using the iphone, then realised that the log they were on moved :)

Thank you! The sunset light onto the forest floor was intense :)

Thanks Karen - it was so lovely!

Pretty glad I headed back up to the woods for sunset...

These are porcelain mushrooms, and a moveable log, so was able to get a photo from underneath!

Porcelain mushrooms at sunset, backlit from the light behind. There are about 5 visible mushrooms with distinctive gills. The mushrooms are actually white but look peachy-orange in the sunset light.

Thanks Donna! I photographed the same spot last week and the leaves were much more yellow. I guess red next weekend then :)

Nice! I've travelled up there a bit (years ago) and there were lovely layers :)

I'm not sure whether I find that impressive or worrying ;)
