Gonna remind the whole of Bluesky, again, that journalistic norms of saying “Texas is doing this” and “Texas is doing that”, (when it’s the TX GOP only) cedes an entire population to white supremacy and erases the opposition that also represents Texas and the Texans that would be victimized.
Go call. Make your GOP reps have to deal with this when they'd rather be spouting propaganda about Democrats. Make it a thing.

It’s because every year it becomes easier for them to find each other. I assure you, this was still there 10 years ago and 20 years ago, etc.
Ten years ago you didn't hear some new scandal about Nazis every fucking day. This is not normal, and it's not okay.

Productivity: questionable. Morale: through the roof.

Enough crying about it on Bluesky for me - I called my Senators and lit a fire underneath them about the brazen destruction of a national monument. I'm making this their problem. Now. While they keep the government closed.

There is a common and ugly residential architecture style with the garage front-and-center - "garage with attached house".

This is "ballroom with attached house".

Unforgiveable for all involved, from the architects to the companies funding to the construction contractors.

Tr*** lied again, for the billionth time. Boycott the architects and the contractors. They should know better and sold their souls.

If this absurd ballroom had to be built, no reason it couldn't be connected by a skylit underground passage to leave the original facade truly untouched. Poor design.

I don't know what will happen in this election--I take nothing for granted. But I do know that there are many Jewish voters in NYC who will, in 2026, remember exactly which politicians told them that only certain Jewish voters matter.

Voting starts Saturday, BTW.

There is a full-on push in NYC right now to use "Mamdani doesn't make Jews 'feel safe'" as a cudgel to get Cuomo into office, and it is utterly disgusting. You know what makes me feel unsafe? People who casually characterize us as a trembling single-issue monolith scared of the big bad Muslim.

Today's @theflytrapmedia.com birthday celebration paywall drop covers a bunch of the music-related content we've published over the last year, including my piece on the karaoke rules!

If you like what you read, we're running a 15% off sale for new subscribers: the-flytrap.ghost.io/chomp
@andreagrimes unpacks the unspoken rules of karaoke, and connects them to our larger social obligations to each other amid the fascist fuckery of the Trump 2.0 era:
Don’t be a Dick: Follow the Karaoke Rules so Everyone Has a Great Time
The social contract might be mostly dead, but we can help revive it one karaoke bar at a time.

This prof of art history at Hunter's old thread reminds me of a story that I'm too lazy to look up now: Fred Trump deliberately destroying early 20th century Coney Island attractions he promised he wouldn't destroy out of spite. bsky.app/profile/did:...
I'm just a lowly art historian, but in moments like these I always think back to one early sign of Trump's wanton, pointless destructiveness: his demolition of the priceless & irreplaceable Art Deco relief sculptures on facade of the Bonwit Teller building, which he tore down to build Trump Tower
Oof.

I finished my PhD during a time of uncertainty with waning opportunities in American academia. So I went to Germany. The Humboldt program laid foundations for my career at a time when my own country wouldn't.

I highly recommend looking into fellowship opportunities, especially now. 🧪
When curiosity meets opportunity: Molly Taylor-Polesky, a US scholar of early modern history, shares how her research stay in Germany gave her new perspectives and the freedom to explore through the Humboldt Research Fellowship.

I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.
