Two pandas at a Tokyo zoo will be returned to China in January, the Tokyo government said on Monday, potentially leaving Japan without the beloved animals for the first time in half a century. In full: buff.ly/rEClYlE

there's just something so bleak about the fact that the seemingly apolitical murder of two elderly people by their profoundly ill son becomes a political football before the bodies are even cold

YouTube’s recommendation engine does an excellent job for me. “Why yes, I would like to fall down a Voynich Manuscript rabbit hole.” But every so often I venture too far outside my comfort zone and experience the horrors of YouTube.
A few years ago I agreed to let my two kids watch YouTube Kids. I came back to check on them ten minutes later and they were watching a flat earther video made for children.
YouTube and YouTube Kids included.

Show young, impressionable children even a handful of Wendover Productions videos and they’ll be obsessed with trains, planes, and logistics for life.
I'm really, truly not trying to be judgmental here. I know how tough it is to keep children away from screens. I fought that awful battle for many years.

We tried to set limits or whatever. It doesn't work. Just ban YouTube. It's a radicalization machine.

I followed a former Republican to hear his views. I was knowingly signing up for some bad opinions. I just expected them to be more around Reagan than TV.
Much as Gilligan and Seehorn are getting now

OH YES I DID
Gump got a lot of credit it didn’t deserve because the received wisdom at the time was that Tom Hanks could do no wrong, so it must be a great movie!

Yeah, this comes off as the FBI entrapping some idiotic Luigipoasters. TBF, it's not exactly a *bad* thing that these idiots are going to be removed from society and the public discourse at a very dangerous time.

And I don't think they're going to squeeze much juice out of the narrative here.
I'm assuming three-quarters of the people in this group were feds to begin with.

If this is the usual FBI sting operation, you'd also be pretty safe betting that every step of this plot from concept to sourcing to buying fake bomb parts was instigated by informants and undercovers

So, a Hanukkah themed military history 🧵

The civil war on the Right is between those who hate me and everybody I love because we're Jewish and those who hate me and everybody I love because we're rootless cosmopolitans.
One more example of "the Woke Right" narrative, where the right tries to frame members who have gone too far as actually sort of leftist. In Fuentes case, it is the overt nature of the anti-semitism. Dreher has no problem working for a govt whose leader (Orban) engages in dog-whistle anti-semitism.

Noise is the number one reason I hate apartments. More that I’m self conscious about creating noise for my neighbors than their noise bothered me.
On the theme of, "American planners regulate the wrong things," we should have much stricter regulations on noise-proofing apartments. It's the sort of issue regulation is meant to handle: it's difficult for most consumer to assess it before making a decision, and it really impacts qualify of life.
4-plex going up a few blocks from me. Gonna see about getting a showing when it's done. If we can see 2 adjacent units at the same time I'll bring a lil Bluetooth speaker to test the acoustic performance between units.

There aren't offset studs between units, so I figure it will perform poorly.
