You notice if you start looking at anyone in the family that got here in the 19th century. They’re correct on ship’s manifest but then they change on the census as time goes on. For one person in my family it was a first name that kept changing.

My great grandfather, a Syrian Christian, was a pretty ordinary looking white dude. You’d think he was maybe Italian or something from pictures. I could tell you more if I had ANY idea how he came up with his last name or if you know, Syrian records were in better shape.
