Revealing division in my timeline between (1) my insider friends who have lived privileged lives who are very keen that we defend the BBC and think it's important it survives and (2) my outsider friends who feel (at best) ambivalent about the BBC's survival.

What's fascinating here is that as she rhymes off the list of gender critical people at Newsnight pursuing an explicitly gender critical agenda, in the context of a discussion of ideological capture at the BBC, she doesn't recognise that she was part of the ideological capture of the BBC by GCs.

I have been trying to avoid this conclusion, as angry as this all makes me, but it's fucking undeniable at this point that in Esther Ghey's view the real tragedy of Brianna's life is that she was trans at all, which made her a target. Her advocacy smacks of railing against "social contagion".

This is what kills me. If Esther Ghey wants to talk about the dangers of kids being online too much, she can talk about radicalization, about bigotry, about the dehumanizing ideas of trans people Brianna's killers were exposed to.

She doesn't, she talks exclusively about Brianna's social media use.
putting her phone in a pouch would have made her killers less transphobic and violent?

A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

i stopped paying attention to the bbc after they published a conspiracy theory about trans women raping lesbians.

their 1 source was a sex predator who wrote a manifesto stating trans men should be correctively raped and trans women should be lynched

they still have not retracted or apologised
It’s so difficult to say what “the news” is these days: newspapers and front pages seem largely irrelevant, the BBC is ignored or castigated by so many, and social media is so siloed that “current affairs” seems to exist in multiple separate iterations
I'm guessing the BBC 'scandal' has been big on X this week as this was the first I had heard of it...

A beautiful test case here for “will these people even defend *themselves* against the right, and even against the new fascist right*. I’d guess “absolutely not” but wouldn’t it be nice to be proven wrong.

I can't say for sure that there isn't a rogue LGBT+ unit at the BBC censoring gender critical voices, but I can say with absolute certainty that if they exist they're doing an utterly dogshit job of it
So the Telegraph’s “BBC bias dossier” - supposedly written by ex-BBC adviser Michael Prescott - is being used to claim there’s a rogue LGBT+ unit “censoring” gender-critical voices inside the BBC.

Let’s look at what’s actually in it. Spoiler: it’s nothing but recycled transphobic talking points!

🧵
For reference - Here’s the Telegraph article with the Prescott memo complaining about the BBC published in FULL.

Obviously, it’s an archived link which circumvents their paywall - as there’s no way I’m gonna give that transphobic rag any clicks or coin! 😣

I listened to the first 3 episodes of BBC's "Anatomy of a Cancellation," and I don't know how the interviewer didn't laugh at Kate Clanchy when she said that "slanty eyes" wasn't in her book, it was "slantED, sparking, black eyes," so that was okay.
The podcast completely vindicates the criticisms.

I am of the firm opinion that “gender-critical” transphobia is fascism. And not just “fascism adjacent” or “fascist enabling” but fascism front & centre.

Owning slaves, invading other peoples’ countries and starving people to death are not “contentious”, they are fascism.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Trevor Phillips here misrepresenting the fact that trans men exist and can get pregnant if they want to because, like all transphobes, he's an ignorant dickhead
Great to see @zackpolanski.bsky.social on @skynewsrss.bsky.social this morning standing up for trans people.

It’s clear that Trevor Phillips was trying to trap Zack by not giving him all the facts! Martine Croxall not only eye rolled, she changed a direct quote - unethical for a journalist!

In UK political spaces we tend refuse to criticise judges because "they're just implementing the law" but no, not here.

It was a judge's personal opinion that led to the belief that "trans people are fake and should be hounded out of public spaces" became considered respectful and legally protected
This is how transphobia's right wing fuckery blew open basic respect in the UK, there is absolutely no reason to expect now that being "women critical" is not also a protected belief, if you truly do not believe that women should just be reproductive slaves for cis men.

This will be used to abuse.
