This is such a powerful piece from @reptroycarter.bsky.social and @repfields.bsky.social on the importance of the Voting Rights Act.

As the Supreme Court hears arguments on this legislation, it is so vital that we all remember WHY it was enacted.

spotify pays millions to transphobic anti-vaxxer Joe Rogan and so my production company pulled all our podcasts off the service years ago and never looked back

they “pay” fractions of pennies to every musician there too

consider finding a better service

shouldn’t be hard when the bar’s this low!

When knowledge is free, why subscribe to or read Forbes?

Wow. Just wow.

"Students pay premium prices for information that AI now delivers instantly and for free. A business student can ask ChatGPT to explain supply chain optimization or generate market analysis in seconds. The traditional lecture-and-test model faces its Blockbuster moment."

One child going hungry in America is one too many – this used to be a value we could all agree upon.

The Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans need to do their damn job and start delivering for the American people.

Enough is enough.

The alleged security breaches by John Bolton remind me of security breaches by another ex-government official who kept classified records in his bathroom and evaded justice with the help of a corrupt MAGA judge in Florida.

Despite repeatedly promising not to cut Social Security, the Trump Admin is reportedly preparing a proposed rule that could reduce the share of applicants who qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance by up to 20%--which would be the largest cut ever. 🧵

This thread leaves out the conclusion: that Sydney Reid was acquitted by the jury. 3 failed grand jury indictments for a felony, an indictment for a misdemeanor, an entire trial, and then an acquittal. Besides all the moral and ethical considerations, what a colossal waste of money and time.
Sydney Reid acquitted.

This was a case where someone filming was assaulted, and then arrested and charged with felony assault.

The grand jury no billed that, so they took her to trial on a misdemeanor charge. There were a bunch of discovery problems.

And now this.

Kudos to the FPDS!
A verdict form for Sydney Lori Reid. She was found Not Guilty.

When systemically marginalized users pushed back, Bluesky’s leadership minimized concerns and began to target them for bans.

I really want to see someone write a critically reimagined review of the entire tech landscape from, say, 2004 to the present, as primarily being an architecture for marshaling and directing harassment.
For @spitfirenews.com, I found that increasingly realistic AI-generated videos are being deployed to harass, smear, and create endless offensive content of influencers, whose likenesses are already readily available online. It’s happening to private figures, too.

Today's episode of "holy shit, we have THAT in our collections?!" is the first edition (1811) of Percy Shelley's The Necessity of Atheism. That's the pamphlet that got him kicked out of Oxford, and there are only 12 known copies. 😎

2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.

But my point was “man born to privilege is told his empire is good so fights for evil empire for a long time then realizes he’s a baddie, becomes revolutionary” is a very common reoccurring theme in the history of revolutionaries and not, on its own, proof of duplicity.

Periodic reminder: Tolerance is a social contract, not a death pact.

If you are bigoted, hateful, rude, or sociopathic, you've defaulted on that contract and are no longer entitled to tolerance, civility, or acceptance anywhere in polite society.
