AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.

Reason number 4,873,854 I'm excited to vote for Katie Wilson.
Great article by @amysundberg.bsky.social about how the Seattle Public Schools board rejected a plan to station an armed cop inside Garfield high school -- and how documents show Harrell's office is considering expanding the program to 15 other schools...
Last week, the Seattle Public Schools Board rejected a year-long pilot program to install a police officer inside Garfield High School in a 5-2 vote. School board directors cited a chaotic process, community distrust, and a need to finetune the plan.

It's just gonna be Tim Pool and this guy

For many white people, colorblindness or the "we don't talk about race" era of the 80's and 90's meant they were able to maintain a plausible deniability about they existence of racism. (to other white people, anyway)

They just didn't have to face it. That's what they're really saying.
I don’t know how to approach “Republicans weren’t racist in the early aughts” as someone who went to Texas during the early aughts and had to debate whether or not Black students were “stealing” people’s spots in class.
Agreed. Please go off, Sotomayor
I'm a bit of a dissent apologist for this reason

I understand the kinda nihilist dunks on them as meaningless, but i've seen too many dissents become majority opinions to think they don't have value--as doctrinal roadmaps, as mobilizing tools, as records of the truth when the majority lies, etc.
If going forward we ever fulfill the actual promise of our Constitution, the dissents from this era of #SCOTUS are going to be very important and influential.

• They placed a flag next to me, and anytime the flag touched me, they kicked me
• Whenever I raised my head to look at Ben-Gvir, I was kicked
• She was filmed while stripped naked

The Supreme Court’s majority right wing indicated in oral arguments that they think racism is over on the same day that the vice president defended the “I love Hitler” guy, and that the NYT reported that the current administration plans to accept only white, English-speaking refugees.

“Kavanaugh stop” is a great phrase. Evocative, critical, memorable, and on point.

The internet tells me the term was coined and popularized by @akalhan.bsky.social and @sifill.bsky.social. A big hat tip to them.

Ahh, the inverse of the 2020 “but if you keep saying ACAB all the good ones will leave” sentiment.

I think a lot about how most people would probably also benefit from some basic level of sign language, esp if learned from school-age.
Most all people are hearing-disabled in certain situations. Loud environment, too far away, mouth coverings. It’s why scuba divers use specific signs.

Most people if they live long enough will experience significant vision loss. Almost every person who does would benefit from learning enough braille to say, find buttons in an elevator.
Frankly, there are no windows in an elevator, and in an emergency we’d probably all benefit from some of it.
This is huge advantage we have. They fundamentally don’t understand anyone that can’t be bought, and they can’t anticipate how such a person moves.
a foundational belief of the modern right is that there is no such thing as organic disagreement with their policies, it’s all directed from the top down

they just can’t conceive that ordinary people find them horrifying
Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."
wondering how AI (when it gets better, soon) is going to effect tik tok or reels. so many of the most fun viral videos are of the “how did they do that!/how is this real?!/I cant believe that happened!” and knowing it could be AI ruins all of that.

GUY 1: Whats with the helicopters? Is Trump sending in the National Guard?
GUY 2: Nah, that's just the graffiti task force
GUY 1: And over there–is that an immigration raid?
GUY 2: Nah, they’re just doing a crackdown on street food vendors
GUY 1: When the jackboots come how will we even notice
GUY 2: Shhh, not in front of the surveillance camera
