Shout out to local journalists @guyoron.net @amysundberg.bsky.social for your excellent contributions to @boltsmag.org
Bolts has pretty consistently been doing of the best coverage of state-level politics I’ve seen, in an era where it is needed more than ever. Well worth supporting IMO.
a Black Friday deal: it’s a great day to support our independent journalism at Bolts

We want to prepare for 2026 on as strong a foot as possible, and we’d love to grow our supporter count (at any level!) by 50 people today.

If you can—jump onboard and help us cover local politics and civil rights!

Every time someone jumps on socials and says there is no point to mass protest days and visible reaction in the streets, share this chart with them. The approval ratings are tanking not just because they're doing bad things but also because protestors won't let people forget it either.
Gallup poll | 11/3-11/25

President Trump approval
Disapprove 60% (+6)

The problem with ICE is not that it's targeting people who aren't criminals. The problem with ICE is that it's an unaccountable secret deportation police. It cannot be reformed under a better president. It can be made less terrible, but the instrument of repression remains for the next tyrant.

The purpose of DOGE was to exfiltrate the private data of hundreds of millions of Americans to Palantir's servers
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail
DOGE 'doesn't exist' with eight months left on its charter
U.S. President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency has disbanded with eight months left to its mandate.

We need to return to the 92% top marginal tax rates of the Eisenhower administration not because we need the wealthy's money but because we need them to have less of it.

(Though perhaps more importantly, we need to tax proceeds from loans collateralized by unrealized gains as regular income.)
The richest 100 Americans gave $1.1B to the 2024 election. For comparison, between 2000 and 2010, they spent an average of $21 million on federal elections.
