I mean -64% net support for abolishing the police is insanely high. Absolute worst case, it means that 64% of those polled disapproved and 36% said they were neutral. That's crazy high levels of support / low levels of resistance for a basic anarchist plank! We're gaining ground.

They're shook.
Incredible to claim that “abolish the police” is in any way a Democratic policy

Absolutely no one should be contributing. This is the bare minimum.
Over 300 writers, scholars, and public intellectuals have pledged to not contribute to the New York Times’ Opinion section until it takes “accountability for its biased coverage and commits to truthfully and ethically reporting on the U.S.-Israeli war on Gaza.”
300+ pledge to boycott the New York Times’ op-ed page over their anti-Palestinian bias.

historians are overwhelmingly woke (ie they are not flaming reactionaries) and actual history is far more nuanced and complicated for their narratives so it gets brushed aside
I know this makes me a bit weird but the thing that really bothers me is how reactionaries don't know anything about history and don't care to learn.
Also age of marriage for peasants in medieval Europe was a looooot older than people think.

Listening to Mark Andreessen talk about classical scholarship like there’s been no new information since the 19th century and him pontificate on Indo-European culture is wild.

Everyone has memoryholed this and thus I'm constantly on about it, but *before 2016* antifascism was incredibly unpopular in The Left. It was basically confined to a minority tendency within anarchism. Virtually everyone else wanted a popular front that didn't create splits over kicking nazis out.
Establishment Democrats spent a full year complaining the Left forced them to be “woke.”

But then a left populist, Graham Platner, threatened to win in Maine, so they went right back to trying to cancel someone over old internet posts.

to keep functioning, a society must discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

my most lib opinion: so long as we have law enforcement officers, they should probably be able to pass an exam about what the law allows them to do without consulting notes
New ICE recruiting methods have resulted in half of this group of absolute winners failing AN OPEN BOOK TEST

I think that the next step in the civil resistance campaign to Trump should be inflicting punishment on elites and institutions who cave. They need to understand that there are costs to compliance
approximately seven million people were out in the streets protesting last week. these people need to grow a spine. www.ft.com/content/1377...

The idea that OpenAI will build products for erotic text porn, deepfakes, military applications and partner with ICE but then draw the line at showing you ads for toothbrushes is hilarious. A straight up joke.

There will be ads in OpenAI products faster than even they expect.

The German company that makes the mechanical ladder used in the Louvre heist has used the image to advertise, with the text 'When you need to move fast'

10/10 response, no notes
This is why the ownership of these companies is a huge fucking issue that must be solved first

We need universal basic automation dividends or some shit in place BEFORE our only choice is to ask what the PBC stands for in “Anthropic PBC”
This is the thing that anti AI people on the left miss — it doesn’t matter if the LLM is a chaotic mess, like having a hundred 55 IQ people at your disposal, it’s that leadership of the companies doesn’t care and will accept a satisficing result and you have no ownership or influence at that level
A thing I sincerely believe is that corporations would rather use AI rather than human employees *even if it costs more* because they consider people-management annoying and unpredictable. Employees do things like try to unionize or sue you for sexual harassment, and upper management resents that.

A simpler explanation is that its claim is obviously true, and that it’s matched by Western defection from other consequential norms (genocide, most recently).
This narrative cloaks a sophisticated influence strategy.
Its psychological payload isn’t to defend China’s trade policy — it’s to erode Western moral confidence

Sanders remains, as he has always been, a reactionary nativist.

Anarchists have been screaming about this for a decade. He's fervently pro borders and has consistently stuck to a classic class reductionist line that is directly at odds with antifascism and sees it as a sideshow or distraction.
Funny you should say that:

That’s the kind of kneejerk dismissive advice that makes me violent. Telling people to just grow their own food is tantamount to telling them to eat cake.
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

The audacity of people who pretend that everything that's going on now came down to a vote is astonishing. It ignores the culpability of BOTH parties in setting the precedents currently being weaponized by fascism. It's like nothing ever happened, and all was well with the world before 2025.
