BlueSky, especially mutuals: it's been fun to be back the last few days, but I'm going to try to take another approximately month-long break. I really was less anxious & slept better during the last one. Have fun, be careful, & link to my editing services is in bio. 😍

Never believe the fuckers who say "why bother, they already won"
NEWS: The Institute of Museum & Library Services has restored ALL previously canceled federal grants to libraries, following a ruling by a federal judge in Rhode Island last month.

This is a massive win for libraries & communities in every state & territory!

Yesterday I spoke with a scholarly book author who's experiencing a common struggle: she doesn't know how to break the writing/revision process into manageable parts and prioritize them.

Good news: I have a workshop for that! Join me starting Jan 27 to tackle a major chapter revision!

This is unfortunately very close to Mamdani’s “misuse of sacred space” argument re: the protesters’ borderline blocking the way into the synagogue. I guess I missed the DSA meeting where this antisemitic logic was introduced and accepted as normal.
charming
Today at Wilshire Boulevard Temple in LA

Protesters justify their disturbances (school was in session at the time) by saying "it's no longer holy"

As usual & per their training, the refuse to have a discussion.

Hard agree. And maybe you guys all think these are funny, but I don’t find exclusion to be particularly funny.
I'm going to take a break from catching up on this dumpster fire of a day to once again gripe about how "in the year of our lord," has somehow made it's way back into common parlance. It ain't the year of my lord, thank you very much.

(See also, "my brother in christ," which, again, I am not)

But it worked so well for Jimmy Carter.
one fun thing about this graphic is that IT'S GOOD MOST PEOPLE DON'T REGULARLY DIE BY FREEZING TO DEATH IN THEIR HOMES AND WE SHOULD, AS A BROAD PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT, BE ADVOCATING FOR LESS CARBON-INTENSIVE HEATING AND NOT ANPRIM 'YOU WILL FREEZE TO DEATH AND LIKE IT' BULLSHIT DRESSED UP AS 'COZY'

Yeah really annoying seeing people that said “I can’t vote against Trump because of Gaza” turn around and ask “what’s with the purity tests???” when it comes to a left wing organization

In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that the constitution is actually just one big paper bag test
The Supreme Court just handed Texas Republicans at least 2 more House seats & possibly up to 5 despite the state GOP explicitly justifying their remap based on an unconstitutional use of race in redistricting.

Unsurprising from this court, and it's a bad sign for the upcoming Voting Rights Act case
BREAKING: Supreme Court sides with Texas Republicans in fight over congressional map. The new gerrymandered map will be used in the 2026 midterms. The vote is 6–3, with the Republican appointees siding with Texas.

i've been kinda reticent on this latest round of "FaKeRs!1!!11 seeking college accommodations" bc it gets us nowhere. that said, every time it comes up, i remember how disability services at my undergrad asked me repeatedly if i was 'sure this [college] was the place for me' when i sought accoms.

Me, tonight, trying to explain to a woman that she should leash her dog because I don’t want it climbing on me: We live in a society.
Lady: She is 14 and has never hurt anyone.
Me: That’s not what a society is.

So yeah, if you're represented by a Republican in a district that was carried by less than 20 points, tomorrow would be a good day to call and demand that the ACA subsidies continue.
The good news is Republicans in Congress are shitting their pants right about now

Elad is exactly right. Don’t be fooled. Another very important reason not to ignore antisemitism in pro Palestinian spaces
Nick Fuentes has been working overtime to sanitize his image and present himself as a uniter of the left and right. Very clearly using language often associated with the left.

This is part of a larger effort by the anti-Zionist antisemitic far right to recruit people on the left.

My Thanksgiving food take that no one asked for: The sweet-potatoes-with-marshmallows-on-top dish is gross. It is way too sweet to be anywhere near turkey, mashed russet potatoes, green beans, etc. There is cranberry sauce. Serve it for dessert if you want, but wouldn’t you rather have pie?

This week, I have leaned that: 1) even more men, especially Boomers + Gen X, respect women even less than I thought & combine that with ignorance of the workings of institutional misogyny; 2) even more leftists/Zohran bros than I thought don’t care what their Jewish supporters consider antisemitic.+
