It's somehow both wildly underreported and just out in the open that the vice president is either a neo-Nazi or, at a bare minimum, a neo-Nazi fellow traveler.

Fascinating. Politico notes that when notified of the texts, many state-level Republicans fired or condemned these cretins. Now Vance emerges to excuse the racism, and calls the reaction to it "pearl clutching."

He seems determined to purge the party of its last enclaves of decency.

For example here, did you know that Manhattan, The Bronx, and Brooklyn are counties subject to the VRA? If SCOTUS wants to kill the remainder of it, do they not think a NY congressional map could be built to wipe out every single Republican seat in the state by running every district thru NYC?
gilmored85.bsky.social
The second cardinal sin is thinking that agency only goes one way. "We'll get to gerrymander our states to lock out our opponents!" works both ways and there are a lot of GOP seats in firmly blue states that will get nuked too if they want to go down that path.

What's funny is that I listened to a podcast interview with Thomas Jane where he complained about this exact problem almost 20 years ago, and it's only gotten worse since.

Bari Weiss launched her own path to stardom with the argument "it is oppression to dislike me for being bad" and now we will get to see what an entire media ecosystem built with that philosophy looks like

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

A few bad apples SPOIL THE BARREL. FOR GOD'S SAKE, THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE SAYING IS THAT A FEW BAD PEOPLE CAN FUCK UP AN ENTIRE ORGANIZATION. PLEASE FUCKING MAKE A NOTE OF THIS.

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

I also care that she's trying to *cash in* on this persecution complex surrounding her blatantly unethical behavior.

Believe it or not, I don't and never cared who she was having sex with, I cared that she carried on a personal relationship with her subject against policy and didn't inform her editor. I don't care that she's a slut, I care that she's an unethical person in regards to her job

Everyone in my feed is shitting on Nuzzi. Meanwhile, the other person in the saga is now destroying the medical community and endangering public health.

But let’s slut shame Nuzzi.

I think one of the biggest cleavages in our society that no one talks about is the division between those that think powerful people must be held to a higher standard than non-powerful people and those who think powerful people should be flattered and sucked up to.

Something that a lot of people either missed or have forgotten is that over the past two years there's been a massive gap between what people *intended* to communicate and how their words were heard, and that contributed to the phenomenon discussed below.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

in hindsight it makes sense to see cancel culture as a harbinger of the end of shame rather than an excess of it. "shame" presupposes stable social norms and a sense of what one did wrong and how it could have been avoided. not suddenly a thunderbolt from zeus thrown at random people

Also, as you get older your lenses tend to become more yellow, leading to colors getting washed out, especially once you reach your seventies. So a little bit of blue wouldn't look like enough; the hair would still look yellow. So you add a bit more until it looks right...to you.

/3 But a huge plurality, at least, of the modern GOP is of the opinion that noticing bigoted trash is more un-American and destructive than BEING bigoted trash: that dehumanizing fellow Americans based on immutable characteristics is morally superior to criticizing anyone for doing that.
