When I watched Fritz the Cat [for the first time as a finished film], that was OK, you know. But when I walked out of Heavy Traffic, I was crying. Making that film, I didn't have the money for a pencil test or Leica reels. We just animated. I storyboarded myself, timed it with a stop watch then gave it to my animators. Over the year [of production] it would come to me in different pieces, this scene or that scene. They never came in story order. The easy scenes came in first and the heavy scenes came in last. The first time I saw the film cut together, when I finally put it together and screened it for myself, I walked out crying. I had no idea what I was doing. I had no idea that it would be so strong. I had no idea that it worked. I had no idea that animation could do that. UPA made the most boring bunch of cartoons in the world. I was there! They were on Sunday afternoon. Except for a few, maybe a handful, most of them were just as boring as the Disney shorts. A lot of them were pretentious, so I am not a big fan. The design was great and the style was great in all of them. But so what? I mean, the shorts themselves were not saying anything new to a great degree. So Kickstarter has allowed me an opportunity to write about people, write about character, and write about what's happened to America. There is a dwarf in Last Days of Coney Island who thinks he's God. He's a little short guy, he runs around working for the Mafia. It's all about what was going on in America from 1950 to 1960 and how it made our attitudes a certain way and how we reacted and didn't react to things. I'm doing things I've never done before with styles I've never used before RB: A piece of shit. It was the most horrible, stupid, dumb fucking film I've ever see in my life. All these critics are raving it's the best Bond. Do you believe this old women and James Bond go to this little house somewhere and make a stand against guys with machine guns and helicopters, putting up light bulbs that explode, do you believe the garbage that that film was? People were saying it should have gotten an Academy Award. It's the worst James Bond ever. It's so stupid. Where is the criticism? And it was such a huge success! There are so many bad films out there that get these huge audience responses, I think everyone is kind of dumbed down, if you want to know the truth. In my day, there were great films. Midnight Cowboy, Taxi Driver, there were things to discuss. Skyfall, I felt the bottom of my mouth drop open. That's how bad the movie really was. I mean the ignorance of those chases at the end, they made no sense, absolutely no sense.

I am Elizabeth (Also known as Sour or Zedd). I am one of many weirdos who lives on the other side of your screen. I have been without full-time work since 2021 and now without a regular paycheck since May of this year. I am a full-time caretaker for my mom and am disabled myself. After my ex took the vehicle in our separation, I was blessed last year with a vehicle from a friend. We knew the vehicle was temporary, but we had hope in being able to keep it going until I once again was working well enough to purchase something. We spent over $1000 on the vehicle (a 2003 Honda Pilot) over the last year. Recently, I noticed one of the belts on the vehicle was fraying, and we took it in. When we heard back last week what was wrong with it, I was to be honest, devastated. It needed not only the belts to be replaced, but substantial work. And that just for it to be safely driven, it was going to be a minimum of 3 times the value of the vehicle. We just do not have the money for such repairs. As both my mom and I are medically complex, along with multiple senior animals, having a working vehicle is a necessity. We live in the suburbs and I cannot walk the distance to the nearest pharmacy, let alone to a doctor's or vet's office. I am very fortunate to have the community I have that has supported me as much as they can, through rides and even borrowing vehicles. This is not sustainable or safe with several of the medical issues we have. I have an amazing person in my circle who is able to help somewhat with obtaining a vehicle, but they cannot just buy me one outright (nor would I want them to). We spoke and decided that trying to crowdfund the rest of the cost of a vehicle would be best. I am not looking for anything fancy. My goal is to find something as inexpensive as possible with a reasonable price range of 2-3k. I need something that is safe and will get us from point A to point B. If you can help with that in any way, at any amount, it would be incredibly appreciated. I cannot express how much I wish I did not need to ask for help, at all, but especially not again. I know everyone is struggling right now, and I want to be helping my community, not leaning on it. If you cannot help financially, just sharing this will help. More eyes mean more chances for help. With a final goal of $2500 from here, my hope is we can get a vehicle that meets our needs, is safe, and will not need major repairs for at least the first year. This will allow me more opportunities for income and to save money. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!

Ramblings motivated by seeing people bemoan the word "streamlined", very scattered thoughts, I'm not great at vocalizing my thoughts so my bad if some of it is worded weird lol
So I had only played the 3DS version of the game before, I decided to replay it through the original PS1 release to see how it compared to the 3DS remake and as a refresher for the upcoming one, most of all I wanted to see how the first few hours of it were originally, I knew the puzzles inside the Shrine of Mysteries were cut to introduce battles earlier and that was always a sore point when comparing the two, and I can see why, it's a very well-designed dungeon with a focus on puzzles that isn't common with the series, what I thought was weird though was how short it was. Of the roughly 2-3 hours spent before the first battle screen the dungeon only took me about 30-45 minutes, the rest was spent going back and forth making sure I spoke to the right NPCs in the right order to get the damn thing open and all the shards to go to the first island, and I think this experience is emblematic of what makes Dragon Quest VII such an almost aggravatingly lengthy game: even though its linear, more isolated chapter format is great and allows for each of the individual vignettes to stand out more on their own it; because of how each island in the first half of the game exists in a vacuum and how little there generally is to their setpieces and locations it makes most of the progression within them unfold by going from point A to point B, then back to point A before going to point C to talk to one NPC so another in point A gives you a different dialogue that finally gives you the damn shard for the next island, the amount of backtracking you do in this game is comical almost. Something you'll see brought up a lot by people looking forward to the remake is the fact that the vocation system gets introduced about 40 hours in, and they're right, this is without a doubt the worst aspect of this game and I don't think it's really properly emphasized who bad it is: the character that gets the most amount of spells before reaching that point is Maribel, the last of which comes at level 11, which you're like to reach about 2 or 3 islands prior to Alltrades Abbey. As far as debuffs go (which are more or less the crux to Dragon Quest's combat) you only get Sap, Snooze and Dazzle to lower the defense, put to sleep and reduce the accuracy of enemies respectively; these stop working reliably on bosses at around the time you get them all. What follows after that point is the driest the combat has ever been in this series, where the most reliable strategy to deal with a boss you're stuck on is to grind for money to get better equipment which really, really does not come by cheap, you're likely to go up several levels before you can give your party the best weapons available but it's nowhere near as significant as equipping the Hero with a lance. I've talked about it before but even though the cut content is unfortunate there's ultimately very little of value being lost as most of it is side content; the casino is likely gone to circumvent the age rating and it's being replaced with the arena, the Grading Association is gone along with El Ciclo's scenario which personally I think is fine, that kind of stat minmaxxing contest has always been unfun in this series and it wasn't an exception in this game, Monster Meadows was a neat concept that ultimately offered nothing of value, Immigrant Town is the biggest loss and even then it's very easy to miss, it's never explicitly clear what NPCs can go. I originally didn't fully understand the rationale to cutting some of this stuff but seeing how much they're willing to shake up the structure of the game it starts to makes sense with how much would have to be changed for these things to fit in, I think the changes that have been revealed thus far have all been largely justified. I understand the context in which Dragon Quest VII exists and how unique its structure is compared to other games in the series and how that makes some people apprehensive at the idea of a remake that's willing to shift its foundations to this extent; as annoying as I can find it at times I still hold this game in high regards and it's that reverence that has me optimistic about this remake, I'd like a version of this game I can feasibly replay more often as I do with IV and V, I'd like a version of this game that's more palatable for my friends to try out, all the changes they've mentioned have made sense in my eyes and Horii's involvement is also reassuring, I think this not only has the potential to be great, it's likely to be great, I have yet to see anything that convinces me this isn't in good hands. I know there's a lot of inherent disdain towards remakes, especially at games like this that have something of a cult following, but I earnestly do believe this game could use it.

Dappled autumn light filters through the bowing thyme plants above the rats as one of the rats looks up towards a little moth flitting through the plants. Let me tell you of where I came from. I don't know how I would spell my family's name for our village, because they speak no language you know. My friend Onri, who taught me to speak like you, said to simply call it Baile Beag or Little Town to outsiders. I could tell you exactly where it is, even draw you a map, but you would never be able to find Baile Beag. How Onri found it in the first place, I don’t know. I asked him once and he merely smiled. Our little village is on a rocky peninsula, too rough and small for farming with no good harbors for fishing boats. Over the years the trees have wound their roots in between the rocks, cracking them apart to make space for life. That’s how my parents and their parents before them lived, worming into the little cracks where no one else could go. They can garden and they can tend their orchards, but there is no plow strong enough to work this land. That they were able to grow enough food to feed me and not starve themselves while I was growing astounds me. When the big folk try to find Little Town, they get turned around. They walk the same path over and over, which seems to turn back on itself. They look up through the trees for the sun, but cannot find it. The sound of the sea is everywhere and also miles away, so they cannot follow it to shore. If they take a bit of twine to mark their way and stay straight and true until they reach the very end of the peninsula, somehow they still never find the village. That’s a bit of magic I’m told that all the feral folk have, which only grows stronger the more of them there are, and our little village has nearly five hundred villagers. Five hundred! I imagine you crying out. What sort of little village could that be? How could that many people simply be invisible on a peninsula, which only has one way in and out? But you see, it’s the people who are small, not the number of them. I know my skin has no fur and I stand as tall as any other young woman you’ve met, but I was born to rats. Rats, the vermin I’m told your people kill on sight. That’s why feral folk magic is so important, so that outsiders struggle to focus their eyes on the them if they don’t want to be seen. Don’t confuse my rats with their wild kin, for they are as clever and industrious as anyone in your grand cities. Their gardens are richer in life than your sterile fields and they love to tinker and build. You would think their lack of thumbs would be a hindrance, but I told you they were clever and industrious. They build themselves gauntlets to strap to their wrists, which have a little false thumb to help them grasp and hold onto things. They’re also less shy about using their teeth as tools than you might be. At this time of year, they gather the acorns to blanch in the stream and roast alongside chestnuts. They dig up fresh roots like turnips and carrots for immediate eating and, because they’re unable to make root cellars deep enough for storage, they pile up all the grasses they can atop their gardens to insulate what remains through winter. Blackberry season is dwindling now and it’s getting too cool to dry them effectively, so what remains must be eaten before it turns to mold and mush. I can never have enough of them, loving them with all my heart but knowing my size and appetite could make others go hungry. They keep no livestock, though maintain friendly relations with the bees and butterflies. They don’t have much capacity for working iron at their size, so must take bits from the big folk for their tools. They don’t think of stealing the way that you do, because they don’t think of ownership the way that you do. Their tools are what they need and use. If they do not need it or use it, someone else can. There is so much that the big folk cast aside or ignore or forget about that little clever paws can find use for. It was not my first time venturing into a big folks’ village when we met, but nearly so. I told you then that my family could no longer feed me, but I was literate and could make myself of use. There was no lie in anything I said. My own garden had to be ten times the size of my family’s and I had grown too big to safely walk the streets of Baile Beag, which are only slightly wider than my feet. A helping assistant would come in handy for his growing Agency after all, but the kid proved to test his patience to a new level. "Don't be coy about it! How did you do it?! I'm taller than you!" My husband (36M) shouted "contribute more" at me (34F) after years of me doing everything Hi everyone, I (34F) have been with my husband (36M) for 10 years, almost 3 of those married. Happy for the most part. We both work full-time. He earns more than double what I do, but we always split everything 50/50. That left me with almost no savings at the end of the month. About two years ago, I started pushing back on that because it didn't feel fair... and things changed. But I've been contributing financially my part. I also used to handle everything around the house (cleaning, groceries, cooking, scheduling appointments, managing the mental load, etc.). He would do house projects, yard work, help with the pets, and a few other things time to time, but the day-to-day stuff was all on me. So I think I contributed there more than enough. He just doesn't see it. IG & Threads: @ask_aubry When our daughter was born, everything changed. I had a REALLY ROUGH postpartum period. She was waking up every hour (or more) to breastfeed, and I completely burned out after a few months. My mental health tanked. Some days, I'd barely ate (just peanuts or chips or stuff like that) because I couldn't bring myself to cook. He did then almost all the household chores while I took care of the baby 24/7. Thankfully, my daughter sleeps better now, though she still wakes up early (around 6 a.m). My husband is the one who usually gets up with her, and he complains about it constantly. I get that he's tired, but after everything I went through during those endless days and nights, it's hard to feel sympathy when I never got that kind of understanding. I eventually hired a cleaning lady for 8 hours a week (two 4-hour days), just so things didn't completely fall apart. But it still feels like we're drowning. This morning, he actually yelled "CONTRIBUTE MORE." It completely broke me. I'm still working full-time, taking care of our daughter, and doing everything I can to stay afloat, and he still thinks I'm not doing enough. Now, my husband says I "complain too much." (And, okay, maybe I do... I'm exhausted, anxious, and constantly in pain.) But instead of trying to talk about things, he leaves the room every time I start speaking. He says he just wants "calmness." He said other mean things related to that as well. He also says he's "doing too much now." I tried explaining that I overdid it for ten years and that this imbalance can't continue. Meanwhile, he still spends 2-3 hours a day on his computer, phone, or tablet. He doesn't seem to appreciate what I did before or what I'm still trying to do now. And when I mention my anxiety disorder, he kind of brushes it off (even makes fun of it sometimes) and tells me to just "get over it" and "live my life." As if I hadn't thought of that alre For the record, he's not lazy. He does a lot. But he's not used to juggling this much, and he doesn't seem to grasp the invisible load I've carried all this time...which hurts. We had been talking about having another child soon, since I don't want a huge age gap, and I don't see myself doing this again at 40. But I'm just... so tired. I'm working full-time and spending almost all of my free time taking care of our daughter. I love her more than anything, but it's hard. She doesn't let me do much and now my husband is realizing how much work there is. I think about divorce often. For the most part we had a great relationship and I don't want to affect my daughter. If anyone has been in a similar situation...how did you make it better? What could I do to make the relationship good again for the sake of my baby? Communication is almost impossible now.

Annette invites him to dinner and he accepts. He pretends not to notice Sylvain and his date at a nearby table, even after Annette points them out and waves, instead choosing to direct her toward their own seats. "Do you really think he's here somewhere?" Annette asks after they've ordered. "Don't know," Felix answers quietly. "The rumors suggest he could be, but it's hard to say. He's out there though, I'm sure of it." Annette smiles softly, but for once she spares Felix the thought that is almost certainly coursing through her mind, some nonsense about true friendship. "And how is working with Sylvain?" "Fine." She huffs a small laugh at this and bites her lower lip. "You two have always been so close," she says, and the words feel heavy with meaning. Felix dodges the bait. "We grew up together." Annette hums and changes the subject. They talk throughout dinner, about food and songs and memories of the Academy. Annette deftly avoids anything to do with Dimitri or Sylvain, which frankly impresses Felix, given how stupidly they both are embedded into his very being. While the smiles Annette pulls out of Felix are sincere, he knows he's exaggerating them in case he has an audience. It's stupid to think he does, but he can't help taking advantage of the opportunity to show just how fine he is. "Is it okay if I order dessert?" Annette asks, then orders the raspberry mousse when Felix nods. He passes on ordering anything for himself. She smiles when it arrives, placing her hand on Felix's. He glances down at the gesture, then watches as she lifts his hand, dipping his finger into the dessert. She gets a perfect sampling of the chocolate mousse, raspberry purée, and whipped cream and slides his finger suggestively into her mouth, tightly wrapping her lips around it. Felix feels his cheeks heat up. "Annette," he whispers as a warning, swallowing when he feels her tongue swipe against the tip of his finger. He barely registers the clattering of silverware a few tables away. "I-I'm not looking for anything serious right now—" Neither am I," she responds as she removes his finger, her voice sultry and inviting. "You just seem a bit lonely is all, and I could use some company." She slowly picks up her spoon and gets another sample, this time offering it across the table. "You really should try this." Felix realizes what she's doing when she quickly glances in Sylvain's direction. He leans forward and allows her to place the spoon inside his mouth. He is surprised by how good it is. It must register on his face, because Annette giggles. "You don't like things that are too sweet, right?" Annette asks. "I remember." She deftly removes the spoon, dipping it into the mousse and making a small show of licking it clean. "Dark chocolate is more your style. It's a bit bitter." Felix swallows, his gaze fixed on Annette's lips. "Where are we going after this?" he asks finally. "My place. But I have to warn you, Felix, I like to savor what I have while I have it. So we might be here for a while."

Tomoki's day went smoothly and he actually managed to find some time to relax and sit back behind the counter. A few of his regular customers came that day, happy that he remembered their order before they even said anything. One of them was a middle aged man who seemed to work in an office nearby. He usually stopped by for a simple coffee in the morning. Even though he always seemed busy and stressed, he still took his time to have his drink inside the café instead of ordering takeout. "Do you not want to take the coffee to go?" The man looked confused. "We can put the coffee in one of our cups or you can bring your own thermos to fill." "Oh... no... I want to drink it here." And with that, the conversation was over. Tomoki wondered if the man was just shy or if he felt uncomfortable. The man still kept coming every morning at the same time, ordering the same coffee, sitting down at the same seat. Those clients were the easiest and his favourite kind, but he couldn't help but being curious about him. What kind of work does he do? What's his name? While getting lost in thoughts, he didn't realise his gaze was resting on the man the entire time, until their eyes met. Tomoki quickly looked away, startled. A customer arriving at the counter broke his awkward position. When he was done with the customer, the old man had already left. Tomoki didn't know what exactly intrigued him about the man, but his mind wouldn't let go of him. "He's handsome for sure and he has a nice deep voice... even if he doesn't speak a lot." Tomoki zoned out on his way to work. Fuyumi was already working the morning shift and looked exhausted but lit up after seeing Tomoki arrive. "Heyyy you're coming at the right time!" Not understanding what she meant, he gave her a puzzled look as she walked over to a table where the middle aged regular was sitting. "See, I told you, you should wait another 5 minutes and he'll be here!", she said while patting the visibly embarrassed man on the back enthusiastically. Tomoki was completely confused. 'Waiting? a while ago @cwonus.org asked me what advice i'd give to somebody who wants to get started researching magick and occultism, as somebody raised in that niche who practices it pseudo-actively. ive been thinking about it. on the bus today i compiled what i said then with some additional thoughts
Ten Suggestments of Studying Occulty Magick-type Stuff Primarily from my own perspective as a Christian who would actually apply this stuff, but good to know for any level of study. 1. Incredulity is important. Ninety percent of everything is crap. 2. Credulity is important. If you're going to dismiss everything out of hand, what are we even doing here? 3. Have working definitions of your terms. This step gets skipped way too often. 4. Know what you actually want, why you actually care, what you're actually interested in before you ever intone a syllable. This step gets skipped way too often. 5. Most of this stuff is inherently rooted in Christianity, especially when it pretends not to be. Unless you're directly working through PGM, the entire tradition is, at the most pagan, filtered through 1500 years of transmission in Christendom. In their own communities, occultists and magick users are constantly reminding one another that you don't HAVE to be Christian to do this stuff, to a point that gets irritating for those of us who are. 6. Which isn't to say that Christians ought to mess with everything. Discernment applies to everything in life. 7. As a matter of fact, don't “mess with” anything at all. Wiccans encourage a year and a day of steady book study before you participate in any form of initiation. They're right. That timeframe is excessive for many use cases, but the point remains. 8. Most traditions and practices aren't closed to outsiders, including the ones people like to say are closed, modern Tarot was invented by the Golden Dawn for fuckssake, but some actually are: respect that. Not for woke points, but because you're going to end up infesting your brain with symbolic structures and possibly actual entities you don't have the background to correctly parse, let alone benefit from. 9. Thinking of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, love them or hate them, you need to respect them, and get used to hearing about them. Everything that currently exists is filtered through them, including your own capacity to interpret the things that predate them – this applies due to broad cultural filtering even if you've never heard of them. 10. In these spaces as in all spaces, when somebody tells you who they are, you're well advised to believe them.

Sasha did not want this posting. The last thing in the world that he wanted to do was follow around a devotee of the Lady of Flowers, a god that he hates. But because of his own horrible track record, he is stuck guarding Brother Galen. He hates every single moment of it. Galen and Sasha clash immediately, and everything seems to be doomed to end in catastrophe. One night changes all of that. When a strange new disease emerges in the center of Candiru quarter, it forces the two men to confront each other and themselves. Only then can they work to discover the origin of the sickness and save Dragonet City, as well as each other. Over a background of dandelions in a pink box, a snippet reads: Sasha held out the flowers and watched a strange series of emotions fly across Galen’s face. First, confusion, then shock, and then worry that was almost fear. A blush suddenly bloomed on his unburned cheek, and he looked up at Sasha with a small, nervous smile. “I, uh, you don’t know anything about the language of flowers, do you?” Galen asked, the tips of his ears were colored as red as the carnations in the bouquet. Excerpt from The Book and some background stuff on the Wills of the Natural Order. Each aspect views themself as the Most Important but they're all pretty up there. The Seven aspects are Flames, Stars, Stone, Void, Water, Wilds and Wind, as a note.
Text reads as follows: "Guardians and leviathans are the two opposing sides of the Will of the Water. Order and Chaos- one working without the other will cause imbalance no matter how hard they try. The Leviathan being asleep may have calmed the waters, but there is an undeniable storm of magic that needs to be returned to create balance. That could be our way in as well. Natural magic coiled through everything, the Waves speaking in their own language as much as the Flames of the land flickered or the Wilds cried out. They were the True magic of the World, and they, above all else, sought Balance. Their desire for balance was so great, they would go on to create their Wills- beings marked by these greater entities to carry out their desires and help maintain the Balance amongst themselves. They would be above mortals, granted access to the magic that fueled them, and gain a connection to the world that few would be able to appreciate. The Wills of the Natural Order was what they were collectively known as. Each entity had their own players- classifications added by mortals who struggled to understand why they were not allowed the graces and abilities of the very Wills that walked among them. Text Reads as follows: When The Lords and Beasts of the Wilds had forests flourishing overnight, Those that worshiped the gods of nature asked why can we not do the same? When the fires crashed through the lands guided by the Pyrekeepers and Flamesmiths, Those that answered to the gods of such asked why do we not control them with such ease? The Waves sang with their Will echoed through their Guardians and Leviathans, the Stone echoed with their Pareidolias and Fractures, and the Winds flowed through it all with their Speakers and Aether- all while the mortals among them watched in fear, in awe, in hate. The Gods they prayed to offered power, yes- divine in nature that the mortals of the world reveled in, disconnecting them from the natural order they all envied. Some of them, very few, reconnected with the natural order and found that if they too chose to uphold the Balance, the Sempiternal Entities, as they became known to those that lived in the world, would grant them access to the magic that flowed through Everything. And those that were not welcomed, sought to control those that were. “I would love to have you for dinner sometime! The house gets a bit lonely on the longer weekends… must just be working too much, ha.” You should’ve known what you were getting into. Nobody is that kind, sweet, productive–normal–without looking like a corpse. Or at least acting like one. It wasn’t as though you were unaware; only three people worked nights. Third one moved jobs a few weeks ago, and a week or so ago She stopped by your cubicle with a half-empty pot of coffee. After that, when she joined you on a smoke break for some fresh air, you repaid the favor and shared a few puffs with Her in the cold of a winter long in the tooth. Her lipstick stung the first time it touched your lips. A week later, over dinner, it didn’t. Her apartment is nice, too. Nicer than it should be unless she was making more than you–unsurprising; your boss had a type that you weren’t a part of in several categories. Imitation hardwood floor that mimicked the real thing to a T, ornate plates and silverware actually made from the metal; wine older than you were. The first course was wine and a garden mix–you could smell something cooking in the kitchen, but only the seasoning and vegetable notes. No meat, yet. “Tell me. What do you do when you’re not at work? Probably sit at home and watch TV, like I do.” You’re a bit indignant. You do exercise, thank-you-very-much, and you manage to feel a bit of pride relating your regimen to Her through the first glass of wine and into the second. She nods, meeting the unconscious ask of validation with words about avoiding a sedentary lifestyle. Gaming, or a similar word–by then, you’d already started on your second glass. She talks a little about Her own habits aside from television–running and biking–laughing about being able to outrun a marathoner as She refills your glass, taking it with Hers to the kitchen to check the stew. You’re feeling pretty good at this point. Not too buzzed, but just enough to like the oldies music coming through the radio and to admit to yourself that even if you preferred hard alcohol to wine, it wasn’t too bad. She comes back with another glass and a comment about wanting to slow down a bit–wouldn’t want to pass out before the main course, and she had to open a second bottle. Won’t know if it’ll taste as good. It does. A bit more bitter, but you don’t mind. Would be rude to complain, anyway. “I guess you’re kind of a health nut, with that kind of routine–you even know what kinds of junk food exist?” Fairly accurate. Aside from the occasional late-night office pizza order or a candy bar on the way home after a rough day, you avoid most unhealthy stuff–She laughs encouragingly. Says it’s ‘good for that meat,’ and you nearly choke on the fourth sip of your wine. The room grew warmer–three on an empty stomach sloshed around the coffee from that night’s sprint. The lights were too bright. She makes a remark about how pale you are, then helps you loosen your tie, lean back. She smells like honeysuckle and something… else. Too hard to focus on anything but keeping the wine you’ve already drunk in your stomach. Her face swims into and out of view. You feel your head tilt back and the numb grace of Her fingers on your chin. You steady against the back of the chair. Feel something bite first into your left wrist, then your right. Can’t find the strength to look down. Her hand strokes your cheek. The cool touch soothes. Focuses your gaze. “It’s going to be alright. I’m going to make you feel better.” You sit. What else can you do? The wine is warm in your stomach, in your cheeks. Pins and needles run across your hands. Something shining sways across your vision. Polished, long and narrow. A handle at one end. She lays it flat, vertically across your face. Like you’d wanted Her to do with a less… metallic rod. Your mind struggles to divine what it is, what’s happening. Her face comes into focus, smiles. Stay still, alright? The rod moves, presses against the edge of the eye. The other hand appears, cracks something against the handle–everything goes white. Pain overwhelms you, rolls in waves, abates. Something is inside you. Skullfucked. Looking but not quite seeing, not quite like you used to. You stay still, because that’s the last thing you remember hearing. Anything past that is shifting and spinning too quickly to grasp, bathed in the white-hot pain. This is the fun part. She grasps the shiny thing in your vision. The part of it that points opposite to whats in you, moving against bone and meat. She twists it. White, red, black purple yellow blue green It pulls out. red rolls over skin. hot. moving–being moved. laying on your side. leaking out. you giggle. leaking is funny. you can’t remember why. She goes away. comes back. something holds your wrist down. other side. leg. the other, wrapped at the knee. something shiny. thicker. buck teeth like a saw blade flash in front of you. I’ll make it a while off of you, darling. Thank you again for letting me have you for dinner.

An email to Erica Stanford: I'm furious that your government is not backing teachers, students and their parents, by not offering anything more than a pay cut to our hard working teachers. You should be ashamed of the pitiful offers you have been giving them and of the (failed) attempts to get the public to be mad at them. We are not. What we are is mad at you. Your government has money for landlords, money for tobacco companies, money for polluting industries but not for education. I'm also furious that you, as a very well paid Minister, do not know that teachers do not supervise NCEA exams. Or perhaps you do know and just wanted to spread misinformation. The public will not be angry at teachers, but we are certainly angry at your government.
