B&M (and Wilkinson's before it) are such money traps for us. We rarely get out of one without spending at least £30.

Any good games on sale this time?

Jill, I was under the impression that your skillset would have allowed us to avoid this specific scenario

PlayStation 1 Barry had explicitly assured me I needn't worry about this happening

So, today I'm announcing a new book project... and doing a call for papers: crpgbook.wordpress.com/2025/10/31/t...

It's an anthology of video game history outside the usual US perspective - an accessible & exciting panorama of different realities - and I'll pay 300 USD per article.

Please share :)
The Video Game History Expansion Pack – Pitch your story
Today I’m putting my money where my mouth is and launching a new project — a book focused on game history outside of the usual North American perspectives.

Incredible to think that Capcom had the confidence to put Street Fighter Alpha into the hands of a team with lots of new hires and initially gave them just three months to get it made.

Loved this so much when it came out. Very flawed in lots of ways but that just made me like it even more.

Really wish Konami would hand it over to the likes of @nightdivestudios.bsky.social for another N64 remaster.

Single screen platform games were a whole sub genre back in the day. Here’s Rod Land from 1990…

Would like to hear your thoughts on it. Been a big Damrey fan for years and would love to know if there were more games like it. Absolutely bone-dry sense of humour sometimes as well.

Sigh. Of course Nintendo are locking the NES and Game Boy games behind the NSO subscription.

So happy that this seems to have turned out well. Earmarked for my Christmas holiday game this year.
This is it!

The last day before you're playing #StrayChildren on Steam and/or Nintendo Switch!

We hope you all land safely in our world!

Wishlist the game on Steam now, and be sure to join us again tomorrow for the launch!

Can't really remember much of BotW's soundtrack at all.

Regardless, I'd be interested in domestically released CDs of classic soundtracks I'd actually play instead of overpriced vinyl. Was more than happy to leave that format behind the first time.

We hope you're excited to get sucked into our world!

Yep. Beautiful slow burn of a story that focused on the people instead of the mechs. Loved the way the investigators were piecing everything together in the background.
That might explain why Ninja Scroll was doing the rounds among my friends on VHS. Patlabor... possibly my favourite film in the genre!
Yeah, same. I mainly like the films or series on their own merits, rather than being a fan of the genre. Tend to prefer the older stuff too.

The body horror in Akira completely blew my mind back then and I recall feeling queasy afterwards. I'd never seen anything like it, especially in animation.
Surprised to see some PSVita UI in Everybody's Golf on PS5. That datetime display looks very familiar.
Oh, curious about what was on terrestrial TV back then! I only remember that Akira screening and not much follow-up. Even the Ghibli films were buried in the late night schedules over on Sky, which seems unthinkable now.
Several things:

1. Super Play's reporting introducing me to what anime actually was
2. The BBC's screening of Akira in 1994
3. Getting cable TV in 1996 and taping Tenchu Muyo from the Sci-Fi Channel overnight
4. Seeing Porco Rosso late at night on Sky Movies before Ghibli was well-known in the UK
