I am not defending anyone for being annoyed with kids - they deserve to be there! And if you want to fight that screen free battle, okay! I’ll support you! But you are not a *better parent* because your kid is raining magnatiles all over the floor or climbing a booth versus watching a little Bluey.

Like I saw this Instagram ad that was like “don’t want to raise an iPad kid?? Here buy this big crate of mini magnatiles” and like … I would rather not, actually? We don’t need that? I’m not going to buy more plastic just because I’m worried some stranger will judge my parenting?

Meanwhile, I’m waiting in the lounge, and there is a girl who is maybe 8 or 9 sitting next to me. It’s crowded, she’s patiently sitting there hands in her lap, quiet as a church mouse. Some space opens up, she grabs a box of magna-tiles, and builds this all in one go without a single misplaced tile.

The AvoKiddos have been reenacting the cyber truk explosion with Magnatiles.
Unrelated, kids LOVE Magnatiles. They are pretty cool, I wish I had had them as a kid. Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs were good, but I would have had way more fun with the tiles.
But they are *expensive*

are 2.5 year olds still too little for magnatiles or are they likely to age into those during the year? i think still too little. and also for most toy dinosaur stuff, most outdoor stuff like compasses, most costume stuff

Smöl Boy keeps making neat creations from triangle MagnaTiles, so very polygonal! I asked him if his creation moved around or if it stayed the same shape. He said it stayed the same shape, I told him that that’s bc it’s triangles. Can’t wait to see what he will 3D-render 🥰

6yo (and, presumably, all of his friends) have picked up the word “sus” but for some reason have adverbized it. Most recently, a magnatiles stack was defined as “sussy.”

Honestly, I think LEGO gifts are great because they foster independent play and focus. At least I think. We're still in the chunky blocks and magnatiles mode cuz he's >2 but I can just let him go do his thing with 'em.

I got the toddler a set of magnatiles just for fun, and he now he keeps saying it's his birthday tomorrow, even though I keep explaining it was just a random purchase. I clearly don't buy him enough toys spontaneously.

PSA: you can turn any sticker set into a magnetic play set with magnetic backing from the dollar store (& the patience to cut them out😅)
Corwin got Minecraft stickers for Christmas so we picked some to turn into magnets today.
Great for the fridge or on a clean baking pan for long car rides!
