It is ethical to download an illegal pdf of a book *that I have already purchased* a hard copy of? Would it be a different answer if I already had a legally acquired electronic copy but in a format I didn’t like (like epub, where pagination is screwed up even if I convert it to pdf)?

Thanks to a Minesweeper-themed NYT crossword recently, I rediscovered minesweeper, which I was so thoroughly addicted to in high school in the 1990s that I got repetitive stress injuries in my wrist. Report: it’s just not the same without a two-button mouse.
