vesna (mrsronweasley) on AO3. Unless we have mutual friends or I can clearly see you’re in fandom, I will most likely block you. It’s not personal. This is just why I’m here.

"genuine appreciation is somehow considered less intellectual than criticism" is such a word

the number of times I've said I enjoyed something and IMMEDIATELY, like a starting pistol just went off, someone gallops in to do "too bad you are simply Not Smart Enough to have spotted this list of flaws"
It goes into that weird thing that genuine appreciation is somehow considered less intellectual than criticism but everybody is getting trained to be such a cynical unfeeling asshole nowadays that I find the smartest people often are the “hell yeah cool song/drawing/story/video” people

My phone showed me this picture I took when visiting my grandparents 10 years ago. These are my maternal great-grandparents. They are the reason a whole line of us looks identical! I never met him - he was arrested & executed in the 30s. She was arrested later & spent 10 yrs in a Soviet labor camp.

heated rivalry is more for your yaoi masters who understand the importance of gay shit. such as myself.
what i like about heated rivalry so far is truly how little sports it requires of me

Next time someone asks me why I don't just adapt my books for television to make money, I'm going to tell them about the time Harlequin underestimated Canada's love FOR HOCKEY ROMANCE so badly it ruined Christmas for every romance bookstore in two countries.

people, you have the chance to put my book ahead of Olivia Nuzzi’s on the bestseller list. put aside all other considerations and think how objectively funny this would be. #1, that Mountain Goats guy. #2, Antivax Man Has My Heart. funniest list of the century. We can do this if we try

I got to know Quinta when we were both working at BuzzFeed and she has always been wonderful, bold and fierce. And kind. She inspired me to think bigger about what I wanted for myself and others. It means so much to her escalate her vision.

I’ll go even further: a lot of the white privilege that Ashkenazi Jews enjoy today is built on unstable socio-political terrain. The Third Reich built an entire legal system founded on the notion that we were Not White less than a century ago.
Jews are both a religion and a people.

They are racially diverse.

To categorize them as one race is not only inaccurate but dangerous.

So yeah, if you're represented by a Republican in a district that was carried by less than 20 points, tomorrow would be a good day to call and demand that the ACA subsidies continue.
The good news is Republicans in Congress are shitting their pants right about now

Star Trek got it right in so many ways, but the biggest one is not naming their computer systems. It’s just “computer” so that no anthropomorphizing human or otherwise brains could mistake it for anything else. We should learn from Star Trek.

Give 👏🏻 UNRESTRICTED 👏🏻 dollars.

This goes for when you donate, too - don't restrict a gift to a specific fund. If the non-profit has an option for "wherever it's most needed," choose that. That goes into gen ops which means it pays for the unsexy shit like Keeping the Lights On and Paying the Admin.
The headline I feel like is that all the philanthropic donations from billionaires typically have a shitload of restrictions.

Mackenzie is like “you’re doing work to stop something horrible or to help something good? Cool. Here’s a few hundred million.” and the paper is like “wow… so novel”
Mackenzie Scott’s signature philanthropic style is giving unrestricted gifts—a rarity in the industry. trib.al/DjrurgM

GANDALF: Can you see anything?

FRODO: There's nothing…Wait. There are markings. It's some form of Elvish. I can't read it.

GANDALF: There are few who can. The language is that of Mordor, which I will not utter here. In the common tongue it says, "Light the lamp, not the rat."

ok so a while ago I had a free Christmas romance novella up on Amazon, but then when I went to make it $.99 a few years ago, it somehow bounced it off the site. I saw a few people mention it’s not available anymore and what if I tried to figure out how to put it back… in time for Christmas… hmm
