The most illuminating part of this story is the head of the PEO union describing drivers parking in no-parking zones, which are frequently places where parking is restricted for pedestrian & bike mobility and safety, as a "benign" issue.
Parking Enforcement Officers On Work Slowdown After Contract Negotiations Stall

The PEOs have been working without a contract for two years. One issue: Their pay caps out at $37 an hour, compared to $52 for other city employees they say do similar work.

I'm honestly pretty glad my brain isn't wired to think like that. Being kind of a simpleton in that way lets me focus on what I actually care about.
you will have a better life if you don’t assume everyone is playing 4D chess all the time. you will get taken advantage of sometimes and other times you’ll just be plumb wrong and embarrassed as shit about it. small price to pay for fending off the most deranging paranoia

The toddler is at an age where she has friends, but none of them have developed enough language to have conversations. Instead, they just get really close to each other's faces and smile and laugh at one another. Which I think is the loveliest thing in the whole world.

Episode 8 of the Devil You Know is quite the finale. From details about the deaths at Jonestown (> 1000 people killed, 300 were kids) to how the Satan Panic is relevant to the several moral panics we face today.

If you don’t know about our Right2Hug campaign, you should check out the links below. What these kids around the country are enduring and also how they are fighting back is something a lot more people should know about.
THREAD. Today our lawyers will be in a small courtroom in Colorado fighting for a constitutional right for children to hug their parents. Did you know that millions of children every year are barred from hugging their parents because of new policies? Do you know who benefits?

Yolo often stands with his little back toes crossed, which I find ridiculously cute!
You can see vultures don't have bulky feet and talons built for grasping/carrying like other raptors. Their more chicken-like feet are meant for bracing on food to pull at it with their powerful beaks, instead.

This story is absolutely horrifying. I've read about a lot of wrongful convictions, and you can generally expect jaw-dropping levels of incompetence and malfeasance on the part of cops and prosecutors. But the part about the bite-mark video described here made me gasp out loud.
Huge news today, if you missed it; Chris Duncan was released from Louisiana prison after being wrongfully convicted for nearly three decades.

@psfrench.bsky.social wrote this devastating but important read this spring on Louisiana’s rush to kill Jim despite junk science.

Some people enjoy playing around with their gender and some people (me) enjoy not thinking of themselves in gendered terms at all. Also I'm a cis woman, which refers to my position in society rather than my internal identity.
