It just feels like everything is being flattened. Rape, genocide, wildfires, etc etc is all just fodder for internet discourse rather than turning points that lead to… something, anything better or different.
It’s so true. It’s actually horrifying to see the memes and jokes about this.

Prohibited activities include advising Chinese graduate students. For reference, a recent Georgetown report estimated 16% of STEM graduate students in the US are Chinese nationals.

This would take out entire fields at the knees, which is perhaps the point.
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

Researchers speak out against proposal that would bar funding for U.S. scientists working with Chinese partners or training Chinese students

I submitted a contest for this ticket today. Apparently you do NOT have to go to court, you just do it online. We shall see.
Went down the Strip to have lunch with a friend and got a parking ticket for an "expired meter" that had to have been printed before I even turned the car off-- I DID pay for parking, at 12:24pm. The ticket was issued at 12:23. I want to contest it but it's not worth going to traffic court over $25.

Man I loved my Masculinity Studies class in undergrad and I feel like that should keep going. I recently read Niko Stratis' book and it made me realize-- well, not realize, but drove the point home-- about how much of masculinity, and the performance of it, is based in violence.

Should billionaires exist? Yes. So long as, once a year, one is randomly chosen to thank society by being publicly burned at the stake. All assets will be redistributed to the people, a reward for creating a system that allows an individual to become disgustingly wealthy from the labor of others.
