New story up on the site!

The aurora is one of my favourite things, I'm so glad folks all over got to experience it!

This is a story I wrote about aurora, and the deep northern winters, and community.

Enjoy, and as always, thanks for reading!

Puffins have returned to Northern Ireland’s Isle of Muck (seriously, that’s its name) for the first time in at least 25 years. Tales of puffins on the island “felt more like folklore,” said nature reserves manager Andy Crory, but now they’re coming back. buff.ly/oBQlH6r

The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy

Actually not that surprising to see a Dean doing this as I'm sure they're 1) lazy af and 2) being all in on AI in the classroom because they benefit from its implementation in some way.

Everytime I watch true crime on YouTube with "body language experts" saying how guilty this person is, I realise I'd be totally fucked if I ever got brought in for police questioning.

Those who stood up to ICE in New York today are heroes. Who knows how many people's lives they protected.

As in Chicago, NYPD took the side of the federal mercenaries, brutalizing all who confronted them.

If you oppose ICE, the police are your adversary, as well.

Ok yall we have 29 hours to make this for my best friend & hero.

Evacuee Ahmed is eager to return to his work—healing the children of Gaza through art therapy. Today, we’re keeping him housed while he waits to start his degree in Europe to develop this practice.

If you’re disabled, housebound or living in poverty and unable to boycott the big retailers this weekend… it’s ok.

Many of us save up for months waiting for a sale to get items we need to survive.

When you’re sick & in legislated poverty, some boycotts are inaccessible.

We need community care.

Black Friday never made sense to me because it’s literally right before first of the month bills being due. I’m not spending on shit I don’t need when what I DO need - rent, food, electricity, water, gas, phone, internet, etc HAS to be paid.

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

Those are crazy numbers across the board.
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
