Baby names aren’t just personal choices; they reflect culture, geography, gender, identity, and as i've been investigating, politics too. I’ve been analyzing 50 years of U.S. baby naming to see how they map onto political polarization in the U.S.
Here’s what I found 🧵

This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

It's funny how this isn't identifiable as a Conservative Opinion but is absolutely the sort of thing that runs on conservative opinion pages. An even split between "the traffic is so bad now" and "Mr. Trump, please exterminate the brutes." A perfectly American intellectual movement in that sense.
At this point, the Washpost edit page is just trolling its readers.

This is today's actual house editorial.

The entire CompTIA certification ecosystem for schools like DeVry, etc. is pratically invisible in discussions/coverage of tech, and is run by a trade association a bit like HVAC - although CompTIA got bought by private equity last year...
i don't want to discuss the ways in which this is wrong, BUT there are a subset of tech jobs -- like, if you are the only sysadmin at a small baked bean company -- which have the same cultural valence as "HVAC contractor," as in "highly-paid WWC job," and have the same politics.
A thing that I feel has not been discussed enough is that the highly paid IT and infosec guys at any company you care to name all seem to be absolutely insane right-wing freaks with the impulse control of a drunk toddler

one of the things i objected to most at at GOOG over the years, from the labor perspective, is the slow decay of the blue-collar routes up into corp. you used to encounter guys who started out swapping drives in 120 degree heat in the hot aisles and who were now SREs, and that's gone.
Yes. I probably could have put it better in the original post and tried to clarify in the next one

Because people keep asking, the Story of The Lizard In That Dude's Leg. Some caveats:

1. This happened more than twenty years ago. There are no pictures. There was a small article in a local paper with, again, no pictures (I'm assuming that's what the producers of 9-1-1: LONE STAR found).

I never understand this pose of "I was an obnoxious child" establishing one's credentials for anything other "I am an insufferable adult"
As someone who is this guy's age I can tell you 100% that if you were into Pixies, Nirvana, 120 Minutes stuff, etc. but didn't like the Beatles you had to have worked hard to contort yourself into that special little box. Your enemy, if you absolutely needed one, was hair metal. GTFO here with this.

When my dad was young, family legend recalls, their dog Major had what the vet said was a heart condition. He'd spend some days just lying morosely in his basket. One day, my grandfather dropped in at a nearby pub, not his usual haunt. He saw a dog bowl labeled "Major" hanging by the bar.
I lived in a neighborhood in Fujian with a corner shop that had two dogs like this (Benben and Dandan) and one time I followed Benben on his rounds and it was exactly the same. The hair salon, the parking attendant, dog bowls ready everywhere. Dandan had gotten so fat she stayed home.

Not going to read too much into it, obviously Trump is the worst man alive, and is going to revert to saying the most odious shit imaginable in like an hour, but it's funny that this is coming a couple hours after 90 democrat losers voted to say "socialism is bad" for no reason.

lmao. reading the opinion on the Texas gerrymander, the court, reasonably, ruled that (a) the Trump admin had sent Texas a letter demanding that it dismantle districts based entirely on their racial makeup; (b) that Texas acknowledged this as their motivation when they did this; (c) this is racist.
