Jay’s coaching has helped me immensely. I’d built up starting to write in my head so much I got anxious at the sight of a blank page. Jay suggested I start small—fill up index cards instead of a page, to build steam and feel like I had more manageable goals. It works for me!
I particularly love working with neurodivergent writers: conventional wisdom often falls short for us, and figuring out with a client what helps them thrive as a writer is really fun and rewarding.
WRITERS! Want to troubleshoot, level up your work or learn a new medium? Bring joy back to your writing practice or come back from burnout?

I have openings for coaching clients! Drop a line to jay.edidin(at)gmail(dot)com with the subject COACHING QUERY for a free consultation!

In these dark times for news media, sometimes we lose sight of why a healthy society needs journalism in the first place.

It’s good when we get notes like these to remind us.

And the legislators unanimously approved it! 🫠
They actually passed a bill that says "there should be a special little place where crimes are legal"
Gov Hochul should VETO the bill that carves out Co-op City from bus lane enforcement.

It slows buses and worsens pollution. The state Legislature should not be getting involved in local transit decisions.

Bumping this: if you know anyone who is doing anti-ICE education or organizing, I would love to speak with them.

Specifically, I want to have a clear answer to the question, "What do you do if ICE shows up at _______ ?".
Looking to speak with folks who have experience doing anti-ICE education and organizing (preferably in NYC, but anywhere is helpful).

If any of you are doing this work yourselves or are connected to folks who are, please let me know.

I am genuinely embarrassed by how many people who have otherwise great politics - people I otherwise respect! - have been willing to cut excuses for this guy.

This is an extremely weird hill to choose to die on, and if you find yourself there, you need to seriously reevaluate how you got there.
Graham Platner is leading Gov. Janet Mills by 20 points in the Maine Senate Democratic primary, per a new poll.

That might surprise pundits in DC, but it captures the vibe in Maine, where you might think he was the only candidate running. @zeteo.com

you might as well post your Spotify Wrapped! I promise, no song on it will be as embarrassing as publicly admitting that you still use Spotify, the company that's proudly taking money from ICE and whose CEO is literally investing a billion dollars in drone companies

Daniel Ek's investments in AI dronemaker Helsing have unnerved artists. One called Spotify a "violent armageddon portal."

It is not a stretch at this point to say that, if you are using a Ring doorbell, you are an ICE collaborator.

Amazon readily provides data to LEOs and ICE.

Don't want to be an ICE collaborator? Then don't use Ring.
remember that your ring doorbell starts using face recognition on every face it sees today :)

One of the things about trust is that it is efficient. It saves you having to invest a lot of time and effort in verification, and if placed in the right places, saves you a lot of pain.

"The diseases will do the education" is what we get when we don't trust.

"Getting canceled" is just another stage in a successful career, much like the way tenured professors take sabbaticals.

You spend a bit of time on a vacation with reduced pay, before coming back with the full support of the monied elite.
Once again, “cancelled” just means “subsidized by the media and culture infrastructure that still has robust funding”.
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

My high school's all-girls production of Tom Stoppard's Dogg's Hamlet - which I was in - remains the single weirdest piece of performance art I have ever experienced, as either a performer or spectator.
