this was one of my two reasons for making the prediction (I can post it now that the news has broken, lol)

Some people want him to run because Chi Ossé is an opportunity to build a coalition of Black socialism within that district, which is definitely a possible upside if it's successful, but it's a gamble, and IMO I'm not sure they have the presence for those odds to work in their favor
November 20, 2025 at 2:32 AM
Those are both true, but the other problem is that the DSA has a reputation for being an extremely white organization, and Jeffries is already smearing Ossé as a "gentrifier". If DSA doesn't have enough community trust within NY-8, taking on Jeffries will only entrench that.

My bet is that they won't endorse him, although my reason for believing that (as a prediction) is different from my reason for being skeptical that he should run/that they should endorse him
November 20, 2025 at 2:29 AM
tbqh I find a lot of the DSA arguments against him to be so unconvincing that they have the opposite effect, which is funny because that actually *reinforces* my prior skepticism of him running (which is that the DSA doesn't actually have a strong enough presence in the district to pull it off)
November 20, 2025 at 2:28 AM
depends a ton on who you ask. although the meeting is happening literally as we speak so we'll have an idea pretty soon of what the DSA membership as a whole thinks

it's a surprising move for JetBlue given that NYC is already their main hub and it's so close?

sorry the last couple of years have been rough for you, but glad you're finding moments of joy in there as well <3

That's Astronomer. Anthropic is the company that makes Claude (and others).

As the article points out, that is a false dichotomy. And Mamdani himself has said it's important for him as mayor to keep navigating the city the same way that the majority of New Yorkers do: by foot, bike, and public transit.

the fact that the Democrat (Johnson) dropped out rather than even contest Nixon makes this a very apt metaphor
November 18, 2025 at 5:46 PM
Having grown up in Boston, this does not surprise me in the least - neither the consensus among Balck people, nor the reaction from white people.
November 18, 2025 at 4:24 PM
Let's be real - at least right now, people are also just way more interested in seeing and grabbing selfies with Mamdani than they were with Bloomberg, *especially* people taking the 4/5 downtown during morning rush hour.
November 18, 2025 at 3:57 PM
And to be clear, Bloomberg took the subway because he was conscious of the optics of being a billionaire mayor. He had a car drive him to the express stop rather than take the local - and at the time, we laughed at that. Now, it almost seems quaint, compared to the last two administrations!

The mayor-elect cannot legally use money from taxes to fund the transition. Most mayor-elects take money from rich megadonors to fund it, which gives them influence over the incoming administration. Instead, Zohran is taking grassroots money to ensure he's not beholden to wealthy megadonors.

Probably related to the Cloudflare outage that's going on right now
November 18, 2025 at 3:20 PM
Also, using a Violent Femmes song for his transition fundraising video is diabolical and proof that Zohran has the right number of queers working on his team 😂
