"Both sides" should stop saying what's true about conservatives. 👈🏾 Literally exactly how we got here.
As Amy Klobuchar said: I just want this to stop.

During the campaign, Trump called Kamala Harris everything from “fascist” to “radical left communist fascist.”

Meanwhile, the Justice Department quietly took down data showing most ideological murders come from right-wing extremists.

Administrators at Indiana University baselessly fired the student media director and ordered the student paper to cease its print edition, so it'd sure be a shame if this excellent digital front page were to be widely shared today

In about three years the entire university pivot to AI curricula and schools and programs is going to be so deeply embarrassing. We will all pretend it never happened and I will be standing there, looking at people with a mirror in my eyes. This is all so embarrassing.

As the Trump administration continues its crackdown, millions across the US are expected to hit the streets for this weekend's "No Kings" protest. If that includes you or your loved ones, here's a 🧵 of guides to follow to protest safely in the age of surveillance.

To talk about actual history:

If Hegseth is looking to return to some past moment, 1990 in fact doesn't seem "to be as good a place to start as any"

Analysis | Hegseth wants to return the military to 1990 — a dark time in its history
The early 1990s saw the U.S. Navy rocked by the Tailhook sexual assault scandal, exposing a dark underside of military culture.

I work with Veterans. If I told them that they "killed people and broke things for a living" they would (rightfully) tell me to go to hell.

Those that have had to kill someone in the line of duty most often view it with sadness, regret, and one of the worst experiences of their lives.
Hegseth: "A few months ago I was at the White House when President Trump announced his liberation day for America's trade policy. It was a landmark day. Well, today is another liberation day. The liberation of America's warriors ... you kill people and break things for a living."

Over the past century and a half, the US military has developed an entire body of law relating to the legitimate use of force that Hegseth completely erases here. To most in the armed forces, it is important to have a code of ethics (no matter how imperfect). Otherwise they are just hired killers.
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."

New IJ lawsuit filed today challenging ICE raids of construction sites, wherein ICE detains American citizens in AL, rejects their proof of citizenship, and holds them without PC.

Worth a read, and more evidence of the wide gulf b/w what SCOTUS says is happening and what is actually happening.

WOW. Remember this May video of a US citizen wrestled to the ground by ICE agents and detained for an hour despite having a valid REAL ID?

It gets worse. Two weeks later, ICE did it AGAIN — handcuffed him and detained him for 20 minutes despite his REAL ID. Now the Institute for Justice is suing.

A government shutdown just isn't that big of a macroeconomic event. But it's still a costly charade, an infuriating waste, and a pointless spectacle. Workers stay home, services stall, and in the end we pay them anyway. A masterclass in Washington dysfunction.

Here’s what the punters think: shutdown odds tonight ≈85%. Not 100% because last-minute deals happen. Base case: a short shutdown. But cross mid-October—when service members could miss paychecks—and the costs get real.

“Health care for illegal aliens” is the new “immigrants are eating cats and dogs in Springfield.”

The Republican playbook is simple: make up a baseless lie, repeat it every chance you get, hope and pray that everyone blames Democrats for the crises you created.

Yes. (And still getting "standoff" BS and "who will blink first" and "who will voters blame" from news.)

Trump and MAGA control the *entire* government. It's a simple fact:
- White House
- Senate
- House
- Scotus
- OMB (to the hilt)
- Every regulatory agency

They're in command. It's on them.
I do not understand why they cannot get the headlines right.

Just follow the gop playbook!

“Repubs control it all! The shutdown is on them!”

As nauseum.

Don’t lead with the nuance.
