Reporter: Governor Walz called for the release of your MRI results

Trump: They were perfect like my phone call where I got impeached.

Reporter: Can you tell us what they were looking at?

Trump: I have no idea. It was just an MRI. It wasn’t the brain because I took a cognitive test and aced it.

Do reporters ever follow up with questions like:

-Why do doctors keep telling you to get cognitive tests?

-Is identifying a picture of a giraffe challenging for you?

-Can you tell us a difficult question from one of these cognitive tests, or are you unable to remember?

I get why people are reluctant to draw parallels between MeToo and the blacklist. MeToo is good; the blacklist was bad! good things and bad things aren't the same. consequences for sexual abusers is not the same as smearing people for fighting for justice. 1

Some ppl have seemingly forgot that political news media spun up a "Biden secretly has parkinsons" story out of a doctor visiting the WH while the admin was working on Parkinsons policy or that Nuzzis big "Biden didnt remember me" piece was written when she was secretly working for RFK Jrs campaign
The actual "worse than watergate" scandal is how much news media collectively worked to ratfuck a Democratic presidency by largely inventing health/mental acuity concerns for hyperventilate about while largely ignoring the very real & worsening issues in front of their faces from Trump
Both taken this weekend:

Fox News legal contributor Andy McCarthy knocks down Hegseth's defense:

"Neither Hegseth’s statement nor the explanation attributed to Bradley ... makes legal sense.
...
It cannot be a defense to say, as Hegseth does, that one has killed because one’s objective was 'lethal, kinetic strikes.'"

Remember Thomas Jacob Sanford, the Iraq veteran who burned up a Mormon Church in September? Remember Nigel Edge, the Iraq veteran sniper who shot up a bar from his boat in Cape Fear, also in September?

Keep track of how differently we speak of them than Rahmanullah Lakanwal.

A thing I noted for myself after a recent trip to the UK and Ireland is that a lot of Trump’s fixation on shower head strength and toilet flushing are very much “The water pressure and flushing are better in Europe” and it’s exactly this post.

Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

"They're forcing it on us because if we don't use it, if we don't subscribe to it, buy products through it, or click on ads through it — the debt structure will inevitably implode. It will wipe out billions in unpaid loans."

really wonder how all of this would be perceived if llms had been marketed as “we made some under the hood improvements to siri so it can give more robust answers and better understand how you talk, plus you can goof around with making fun images” instead of “we are building a new kind of god”
When ChatGPT first went public I played around with it a bit, and there was a very short but lovely period where it was just “Wow, this is really impressive, neato” before the insane self-destructive hype cycle took off.

I appreciate the sentiment as a plank, but as a slogan it's terrible, and I tend to think political consultants spend way too much time thinking up slogans because its less icky than doing actual politics

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Even a decade ago I'd have far sooner predicted that the US would succumb to authoritarian rule than that it would become a state where vaccines were unavailable.

But if we don't throw RFK Jr. out on his ass, we're headed there fast.
RFK Jr. is overhauling the program that helps preserve Americans' access to vaccines
A Kennedy adviser said he wants to preserve the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. The health secretary's anti-vaccine allies prefer it collapse.

I think about it like car companies. Once cars got good there wasn’t a push for GM to make something new beyond the car, or to reinvent the car, they were allowed to refine and improve, with mixed results. All of the tech companies are racing to make The Homer and don’t realize it.

Yeah. Before the fall, CK's act—and his fandom—rested on the premise that his worst self wasn't his true self. Now it's the opposite, and that's just not interesting as comedy.
He is just generally an alt-right, unrepentantly racist and transphobic piece of shit. He is also a genuinely bad comedian, much in the way that thin-skinned assholes often are 🤷‍♀️
