ICE is not law enforcement. It's an authoritarian gang. They target suburbs, school zones and quiet neighborhoods for the easy targets and avoid actual crime zones or known criminals in order to avoid putting themselves at risk.

it is impossible for mayors or cops to learn positive lessons about protest response because they all have two immovable beliefs:
1. it is evil and childish to hold police officers accountable for violent acts
2. cops must be present at all times during protests

The lesson Frey and Walz were supposed to learn in 2020 was that sending riot police to a peaceful protest creates a confrontation that results in some dipshit cops shooting people in the eye with a gas canister which then we have to goddamn pay for in settlements while also our city burns.

there is no constituency that needs you to fall all over yourself to call Maduro illegitimate before you dare criticize Trump. Voters have been down this road before. No one thought Saddam Hussein was a nice guy. Criticism of Maduro at this stage correctly reads as a defense of Trump to most people.
