Lol the US just abandoned their effort to get mad at the guy that threw Bolsonaro in prison. Big "my toddler tantrum didn't get me nothing so we're done here" energy.

WOW. @haleaziz.bsky.social with a new scoop: ICE now gets a running list of every person who is going to be taking a domestic flight inside the United States from the TSA and runs it through their database looking for targets. This explains the Babson College student's arrest.

The British Gov during WWII had a lot of control over what was reported. After the fall of France, they could've down played how bad things were, but you can't hide german tanks in Paris. They told the truth about the severity (that & Churchill played up the threat of invasion.) But it matters
1. Trump 1.0 was more corrupt than even Nixon.
2. Trump 2.0 is Trump 1.0, but to coin a phrase, ON STEROIDS.
3. Yet the challenge for Democrats is world weary cynicism that all politicians are the same.

Unforced errors like this reinforce 3 & are really bad for the party!
"House Democrats on Thursday voted to return Rep. Henry Cuellar to his leadership role on the House Appropriations Committee following his presidential pardon on federal corruption charges."

JICYMI - Shameful, repulsive move by House Democrats and their leaders. Disgraceful.

blatantly a violation of both the rules on Congress solely having the power to collect taxes, duties, excises, and so forth and also that such a new collection of federal revenue must originate as a bill in the House of Representatives, Madison wrote a bunch about it, the Constitution still matters?

"there is little reason to doubt what the aim [of the massive investment in AI] is: to embed knowledge in machines—knowledge that previously belonged to the people working in these domains."

🧵
In applying AI to material science, biology, etc, capitalism is trying to shed science.

The point is to substitute the engineering of a machine that can generate what science has hitherto done, but without having people know things. Knowledge ultimately residing in private property is the dream.

While we were watching Ken Burns’ “American Revolution,” my husband said more than once, “How did we ever win?” That’s often how I feel now. But the closing lesson I got from the documentary is to persevere. Day by day. I have faith we will emerge from this darkness.

Counterpoint:

The Supreme Court lacks the authority to change the text of the Constitution.

So either it affirms the text or (further, and more completely) nukes its authority as Constitutional arbiter.

There’s no third option. Art III (courts) can’t just usurp Art V (amendments).
