The US is a straight-up police state, more egregious than the vast majority of ‘totalitarian regimes’ we (in the Global North) grew up being warned about.
Picture the Feds took with supposed Latin Kings leader (whose wife says he’s being framed) is 100% inspired by the IDF

We're sending squad-sized elements to secure the Bass Pro Shop
Screencap of an AP article

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — National Guard troops patrolled in Tennessee’s second-largest city for the first time Friday while soldiers in Illinois were engaged only in planning and training after a judge handed a loss to the Trump administration and blocked their deployment to the Chicago area.

At least nine armed Guard members began their patrol at the Bass Pro Shops located at the Pyramid, an iconic Memphis landmark, about a mile (1.6 kilometers) from historic Beale Street and FedEx Forum, where the NBA’s Grizzlies play

(I covered Iraq protests in LA, the infamous “Battle in Miami” at the 2003 FTAA meeting, the 2004 GOP Convention in NYC, WTO ministerials in Hong Kong and Cancun and Occupy Wall Street, San Fran and Oakland. I’ve seen some shit.)

I’ve covered and participated in protests where cops worked with organizers and then stayed back a bit and they’ve always been peaceful. With very few exceptions, all of the violence I’ve seen at protests—and I’ve seen a huge amount—started with aggressive policing.
joshuaholland.bsky.social
Smart crowd control would be liaising with protesters, explaining why following some ground rules like not blocking vehicles would hurt Trump’s case and giving them a chance to police themselves.

But cops are very, very stupid when it comes to protests and/or wanna see violence.

They’re saying in court that the military isn’t needed cuz local and state cops can handle the protests and that they are just being inflamed by the feds.

I look forward to reading this and I also look forward to confirming my belief that Trump is the first president where those who dislike him are more likely to think he's keeping his promises than those who like him.

He did just that with the nat guard on the southern border *during the holidays* in his longest-in-US-history first term shutdown. They missed Christmas and didn’t get paid.

Purity tests? You obviously don’t understand what I’m saying. Or maybe you’re a bot?

If it’s the first one then have a good night.
joshuaholland.bsky.social
Yeah, I think the guardsmen are pure props and mostly just stand around—and get depressed far from home, drink, do drugs, get into fights, etc.
joshuaholland.bsky.social
Yeah, the non-bastards don’t stop the bastards so they’re all bastards.
joshuaholland.bsky.social
That’s not gonna happen! Local cops may be pissed about the feds stepping on their toes or gassing them but 90% of them voted for Trump in 2016 and most of them have brains stewed in RW media.
joshuaholland.bsky.social
I would say, with more respect than your quoted twoot, that we don’t say “ACAB” because every cop is literally a bastard but because the problems with American policing are deeply structural. It is the job of cops in our society to rough up protesters and reporters.
joshuaholland.bsky.social
Yeah, the cops are never your friends.

Everything is relative and I think local PDs have somewhat better training, a bit less animosity towards their communities and probably care more about optics than those ICE goons but the court cases are about defending federalism from a fascist gasbag.

Telling the federal court that IL police can handle Broadview was part of the state's legal strategy against national guard being deployed here.

But it's hard to square that as for the good of protestors or Illinoisans as a whole, when IL police are perfectly willing to drag and beat them anyway.

state police continue to push protesters down 25th street. at one point, cops swarmed a group of people and pushed them to the ground.

multiple people arrested.

Per CDC source: At internal leadership meeting this afternoon, it was shared that 1,257 people were RIF'd at CDC. Number may not be final. Apparently, chief of staff was unaware that RIFs were going to occur so not clear who is making decisions. (Short 🧵)

There has to be a reckoning for this, for all of it. No more “look forward, not back” nonsense. Not this time. Those who ordered this evil shit, and those who carried those orders out *must* be held to account.

ICE drag girl out of car & body slam her to ground—then pin her face down & kneel on her neck.

"I'm 15!" she cries out. "I'm not resisting!"

Agents have now asked multiple area housing associations to unlock main doors—so they can go door to door.

They’re making it so easy. If you think you can just “order” the military to be paid without Congress then just do that for the rest of the government.

Huh: TikTok took down my 8-second video featuring this image of Debbie Brockman — the news producer just detained by Trump’s CBP agents — saying it violates the “joy of TikTok”

ICE secretly kidnap autistic boy during bathroom break—never notify parents.

Mother reported him missing a week ago—turns out ICE had him detained the whole time.

He was helping sell fruit and asked to go to the restroom—by the time she was done helping a customer he was gone.

Houston, Texas

And if Dems manage to take power and slash ICE’s workforce, all those violent, bigoted goons who signed up for Trump’s Gestapo only to find themselves unemployed a few years later are going to be a big problem. Only so many of them will be able to succeed in the RW grift industry.
