Feel like we need to admit that the theatrical window is going away. Theaters can’t survive on charity viewings and legal restrictions on where things can release. They need to simply be better than watching stuff in your living room at home.

Great example of what he's talking about: compare the Burj Khalifa sequence in MI Ghost Protocol to the cliff jump in Dead Reckoning. Both sequences combine real stunts with CGI. But the former is way more effective and thrilling than the latter.

really good summary of what is ailing modern movies. the short version is that they are drowning in a sea of blurry backgrounds, volumetric digital clouds, and static medium shots that all obscure the larger world of the film.
