It's condescending and insulting to the intelligence of Canadians to expect us to trust he's playing "4D chess behind the scenes," while he gives us winks and nudges to that effect, without taking the firm action to prove it.

This is the right understanding of our geopolitical reality, but Carney's actions aren't in line with these statements. We need investment in our diplomatic corps and a clear foreign policy to mobilize Canada to meet the moment.

Amazing how many world leaders (Carney) see Trump reneging on promises, mocking them, and threatening to invade and those same leaders (Carney) thinking that it won't happen to them because they are just built different or something

Mind you, the pastor was not just a conservative or Trump supporter or what have you. The pastor is the LOCAL DIRECTOR OF ICE. It is the equivalent of a German pastor being an SS officer
If my pastor were evil I would want you to invade my church and heckle him too, full solidarity to the MN church protestors

I do think the appropriate response to this is just a full-throated, "Fuck you."
US Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent:

What I am urging everyone here to do is sit back, take a deep breath, and let things play out. The worst thing countries can do is escalate against the United States.

If Carney is looking for a good reason to not join the Board of Peace other than the fact that it's a ludicrous idea and that doing things to please Trump never actually gains anyone anything even in the short term and also why should we degrade ourselves in such a way, here it is:
Trump posts an image depicting Canada and Greenland as part of the United States

No institutional arrangement is so watertight that it doesn't depend on at least some (institutional) actors doing their job in good faith for the public good.

Laws aren't self-enforcing. Divided powers aren't self-correcting.

It matters who we elect.
Where are the checks? Where are the balances?

Angry Sun = pretty skies! If you're in a position to do so, it's worth looking for some aurorae with this one!
MUST READ thread before Monday night's forecasted G4 / SEVERE geomagnetic storm. Auroras could be seen as far south as the U.S.-Mexico border at times. Widespread mid-latitude displays are possible. Here's what you need to know to have a successful aurora chase tonight! 🧵

you are responding to "we are going to steal your home and your land" with "have you considered that this is messaging for the midterms?"

do you realize why people not in the US are freaked
like i feel like Yanks do not get how utterly batshit the moment we are currently in is
the issue here is that the EU is currently looking to see if anyone in the US opposition is actually capable of, you know, assisting them against being economically coerced, you know?

also just a increasing societal thing

during the pandemic there were people who would periodically lose their shit at me on the old website because I would explain why government was doing certain things, would point when it didn’t match the data, but I would not say “and they are bad”
this site seems to genuinely have an issue with viewing explanation as a form of endorsement
Me outlining the conclusions the tribunal reached is not me endorsing them. Especially when I emphasised repeatedly that this is a first instance decision and non-binding. I'm really not sure what more I can do to make my position on this clear - it has quite literally been my entire life since FWS.

The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.

It’s ironic that they’re like “if we do ethnic cleansing we’ll have a high trust neighborly society” and then Minneapolis is literally doing high trust neighborly society and they’re like nooooo
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

Hot take: a way more worrying trend for the health of society than marriages or birth rates is the collapse in the number of close friendships people report, and that is quite closely related to the former trend.

Wrong. Completely wrong. Canada *does* need to be 'performative'. It's called leadership. Upholding democratic norms is done by vocal support and action, not going mute when things get tough out of cowardice and self preservation.
Canada doesn't need to be performative. The EU is making a statement because they need to demonstrate their unity and strength.

in all seriousness, this is a revolutionary dual power structure
We have ~15 separate radio dispatches, one for each neighborhood, and dozens more for the suburbs/Saint Paul. Each dispatch/monitoring channel contains somewhere between 500 and 2000 people. At any given time there are probably a dozen mobile patrols and 100 on-foot observers in each neighborhood.
Does Minneapolis have a radio dispatch set up for the people who are following ICE? That's brilliant.
