The Guardian newspaper once called me a "Guerrilla Satirist" and the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador once called me "an arsehole."

Former journalist. Artist. Writer. Comms guy.

Many worthy contenders, but Yonge and Eglinton has to be the most cursed intersection in Toronto.

The way Americans celebrate Thanksgiving is like that one friend who's way, way, way too into a niche hobby.

Like yeah man it's cool, but making it your whole personality? You're making me feel weird about it now.

Had the chance to chat with @vincebeiser.bsky.social briefly at the Balsillie Prize ceremony last night, and I've already read this book.

It's such a nuanced look at the critical minerals industry. We need these metals to slow and reverse climate change. But we cannot ignore the environmental cost.
Congratulations to @vincebeiser.bsky.social, winner of the 2025 #BalsilliePrize for Public Policy for his book Power Metal: The Race for the Resources That Will Shape the Future. Beiser was selected by a jury composed of Samantha Nutt, Taki Sarantakis & Scott Young.

fwiw this is the same magazine that published an overwrought 750-word description of Christopher Hitchens' body, which includes the phrase "extraordinary genital endowment" and that was way back in the halcyon days of 2008 www.vanityfair.com/news/2007/10...

It's the internet and the phones that did it.

There's so much discussion and theories about trends and forces. So much overthinking. But in hindsight it'll be blindingly obvious that it was the smartphones and the internet that caused it all.

Utterly, patently ridiculous. We have such great jobs - flexibility, self-management (an employer, no boss), and generally following our interests. Yes, we're specialized, yes we sacrificed income in our 20s to earn PhDs, but good lord is paying profs over 200K ever excessive.
Canadian University salary data is out: Queen's has now passed Toronto in having the highest average professorial salary - $198,875.

Mostly this list just goes to show that the Star Wars movie franchise is essentially a pile of mostly crappy movies that are coasting on a truly historic reservoir of nostalgia.

(And yeah, there's something to be said about the TV shows.)
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

It does seem like a pretty obvious and trivial thing for all of these X accounts to make their location show up as USA just by paying for a VPN.
Planned Parenthood uses a VPN so its twitter location is shown as Germany and now all of MAGA twitter thinks Planned Parenthood is a fake organization based in Europe.
