Hungary (under some kind of dictatorship till 1989), Turkey (democracy constantly interrupted by coups) are not really comparable. India funnily enough is in having a democratic tradition, and even though Modi has gone pretty far, he is not by any means an omnipotent dictator with no checks.

I mean one reason I have been relatively sanguine about the US situation is that liberal and democratic values are pretty deeply rooted in state and society to an extent not true in other cases of democratic backsliding. Like there's no way the fash could roll in without heavy resistance *somewhere*
