Thinking about the @lindsayellis.bsky.social video where she noted how white nationalists co-opted American history X and all these other “strong” critiques but can’t handle “Springtime for Hitler” because of how ridiculous it makes them look
I’m telling you: ridicule works. These guys are supposed to intimidate the citizenry and it’s very hard to do that when a guy in a frog suit is just staring you down and daring you to do something that makes it look like you’re afraid of a cartoon

Everyone is always like, "well, JD Vance isn't *stupid*." And I've never seen any evidence of that

I fucking hate the avatar franchise to the core of my soul and it says something to me that I just don’t get the appeal of “looks pretty” when so much of America is like “ooooh spectacle with one inch depth!”
it's that time of year when a bunch of people start pretending their personal distaste for the avatar franchise can bend reality in their favor against the inevitable tide of james "big jim" cameron's next guaranteed blockbuster smash hit. you can ignore them, they are fools

Anyway some people are obligated to investigate and pursue crimes once they know they have been committed. Time to see if my lack of faith in an institution is correct or not.

The point is they were shipwrecked you idiots. Just the dumbest fucking people but fortunately no statute of limitations here.
Fox News' Joey Jones justifies the US military killing survivors after an initial boat strike: "An enemy combatant does not have to have a gun to be a danger or a threat... if you leave anybody alive, they can signal and let others know what’s happening and they can also retaliate through radio."

Thinking for no particular reason about the Letter that the O3 Trial Counsel wrote to Richard Nixon after he commuted Calley’s sentence. Anyway.

Imagine what it does to morale in the military to see the defense secretary hang an admiral out to dry to avoid responsibility for war crimes.

The problem with trying to cover things up after the fact is there is almost always a trail
Pete Hegseth on Sept 3 talking about the strike on boats where 2 survivors were later killed in a second strike: “I watched it live.”
December 2, 2025 at 4:11 AM
Oooooooooooooooooohhhhh fuuuuuuuuuuuuck
And Hegseth said at the time that he watched the attack *live*. If he watched it live, then he either gave the orders or knew exactly what orders were given that day.

He wrote it in a book!!
To be clear, we're talking about a *literal* take-no-prisoners approach. This is not a metaphor. We're describing the Secretary of Defense in literal terms as a guy who is genuinely committed to doing war crimes

I will remind everyone (including the military folks) there is no SOL for murder and it is unlikely everyone gets a pardon.
A murder trial for a US secretary of defense would be an unprecedented disgrace to the service, and it would be breathtakingly dishonorable for Hegseth to allow that to happen.

News --> The commander who oversaw Pete Hegseth's alleged killing of two boat bombing survivors is now likely to come in and face questions from the House Armed Services Committee, ranking Dem Adam Smith tells me.

In this piece, I try to make sense of this horror:

Trump Boat Bombings Suddenly on Shakier Ground as Damning Info Emerges
Will Republicans give us a real investigation into Trump’s bombings, now that we just learned horrific new details about them? Or are they seriously going to fall on their swords for Pete Hegseth?

Maybe someone should make a video letting military folks know they shouldn’t follow illegal orders.
Breaking news: Government officials said they are increasingly concerned that the Trump administration intends to scapegoat the military officer who directed U.S. forces to kill survivors of a targeted strike on suspected drug smugglers in Latin America.
Hegseth, with White House help, tries to distance himself from boat strike fallout
As Congress vows accountability, the Trump administration emphasized it was a top military commander — not the defense secretary — who directed the engagement.

JSOC being thrown to the leopards
OK, This NYT Hegseth PR piece is unbelievable, but I want to point out two specific ways why.

1. "As that operation unfolded, they said, Mr. Hegseth did not give any further orders to him."

This sentence says nothing new, and only raises further questions about WHY NOT; it does not clear him.

It doesn't get you off the command responsibility hook to say you were too stupid and incompetent to realize you were flippantly ordering a crime.

This is part of why you don't follow illegal orders. You're still culpable for breaking the law! You can absolutely be thrown under the bus for it!
December 2, 2025 at 3:31 AM
I can also say that nobody asked the lawyer before the follow up which probably led to the lawyer shitting his or her pants.
Which a three star admiral should be expected to know the difference between, although with NSW who knows if he actually did and went anyway or if he's legitimately that dumb
