And to be clear, the mayor's 2026 proposal is not just a "no police cuts" budget -- it's a budget in which CPD (already the city's most expensive dept. by far) received a larger year-over-year net increase of non-grant funds than any other dept.

Larger than most other departments' entire budgets!

As a centrist, I think Donald Trump is bad, but the political and economic conditions that enabled him to become president twice are good

Looking forward to the many people who threw a fit about Chuy not running for office joining me in donating to Byron’s campaign. After all, they’re sincere in their stated objections and care more about competitive elections and process than they do about intra party factionalism
Chicago DSA Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez quietly filed with the FEC for Congress a few days ago as an independent, potentially setting up a D-vs-I general election against retiring Rep. Chuy García's chief of staff, Patty Garcia, the only Democrat who knew to file before Chuy's last-minute retirement

"Don't follow illegal orders" would be more meaningful if Democrats had prosecuted literally any of the prominent war criminals of the last 30 years instead of, you know, fucking campaigning with them

Honestly, I saw A WHOLE LOT of Mamdani’s campaign online communication, and I could not tell you if there was a slogan other than “Mamdani for Mayor” or “The Mayor for All New Yorkers.”

I know what policy he campaigned on. That’s a 180 in political communication today

I’m convinced one of the reasons Mamdani was such a rocket in his popularity is that he didn’t communicate as if he thought people are stupid.

I’m also convinced a large portion of Democratic politicians and campaign professionals have no doubt people are incredibly stupid.

Awesome, incredible, marvelous. My fucking kingdom for anyone willing to confront the blackshirts
Johnson vows to veto any budget that includes a property tax increase or makes cuts to the proposed $2.1 billion for the Chicago Police Department.

CONTEXT: No one has seriously proposed either.

Days until the Dec. 30 deadline for the City Council to pass a budget: 43

Really disliking the timing of this. 5 hours earlier and might cancel cps, instead, we'll get everyone TO school then have an absolute shitshow getting home.
ANOTHER ROUND OF SNOW COMING

Shoveled my own and my neighbors' walk, went for a little walk, came in and Kate had hot Bang Bang biscuits and I made Mexican hit chocolate with rum and whipped cream. Just the best damn day.

St. Paul police brutally assault locals defending their neighbors from ICE, then absurdly accuse the locals of being "professional agitators."

"We are not your adversary. We are your police."

They support ICE with violence, just as they murder with impunity. They are, in fact, our adversaries.

Hard agree. One year my dad decided he was gonna do mole to go with the turkey as well. He was up at 6 to go the Mexican grocery store, made a great mole and no one but him touched it bc today you eat gravy.
Thanksgiving is the sole Food Oriented Holiday for which I have no interest in culinary creativity or novelty. I want turkey and stuffing and potatoes and green bean casserole and I want gravy on all of it.

“Liven up your stuffing with persimmons” no, fuck that, I will liven it up with gravy.

In the US, Catholic sisters return Wisconsin land to Ojibwe tribe in a historic first. The Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration have transferred a lakefront property to the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa for the same $30,000 they paid in 1966.

For the first time, Catholic sisters return land to a Tribal nation

Made a pilgrimage to the @debsmuseum.bsky.social in Terra Haute yesterday and boy was it worth the drive. The curator abs guide, Allison was a font of knowledge. We got the 90 min tour age easily could have listened to her talk about Gene and his times for twice that. A true hearth of comradeship.
