I read Snowspelled by Stephanie Burgis! A charming, low angst and low stress romance novella in a pretty gaslamp fantasy setting with lots of women, family relations, sapphic background characters, and fey antagonists ❄️
Arden Powell's review of Snowspelled (The Harwood Spellbook, #1)
I go to Stephanie Burgis' books when I'm looking for a short, sweet romance with a light touch of magic, and this has the added bonus of setting the mood for the coming winter season. It's low angst a...

Tonight we're celebrating 10 years of Rewilding Britain (@rewildingbritain.org.uk). I don't think I've ever come across an organisation which has shifted both public attitudes and tangible outcomes on an issue so fast. I'm proud to be associated.

Looking after my one year old nephew. He took a nasty trip running around & started screaming. His ankle looked dislocated so I called an ambulance & held his leg still trying to keep him calm. Paramedics had to stop themselves laughing when they told me it was his sock twisted

IMO the weird exception some supposed leftists seem to make for condemning-the-theft-of-labor-except-art-lol-steal-that-shit is just a weird intersection with puritan "if you enjoy yourself, it's not a real job" brainworms.

"fun" job = member of the leisure class (ROFL) = fair game. Somehow.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

Imagine a world where all the tech companies named their products after Wodehouse characters rather than Tolkien concepts. It would still be just as toxic, but at least it would be funny. Instead of Palantir, you'd have the Empress of Blandings, for instance.
I'm sure if they won the search engine war, they'd have become corrupt and evil too, but I would've preferred Ask Jeeves winning if only to brainwash a whole new generation into reading PG Wodehouse novels to understand just who the hell Jeeves is.
Look kids! It’s Ask Jeeves! Over here Jeeves!

Just read Wooing the Witch Queen by @stephanieburgis.bsky.social and LOVED IT. We need more dominant alpha heroines who fiercely defend sweet bookish heroes just discovering their strength. I never, ever say this but I could have gone for a higher heat level.

Good thread, very informative. NB a key reason the traditional publishers' advance/royalties finance model no longer supports most UK authors is that assumes steady backlist sales but these days publishers don't take returns on titles more than 18 months old, so high street shops don't stock them.
I'm going to do a little thread on how the money from books works for traditionally published authors because people have questions, and this is always useful info to share IMO. First, a big disclaimer that every contract is different, and there are a million factors that can change things. 1/

This is very much not what students were told when they took out their loans. But very much the signature of a government determined to squeeze ordinary people rather than taxing the very wealthy.

You know what? If you're earning 100k and have no mortgage, you're doing okay. You can deal with having slightly less tax-free savings. I'm more concerned about people earning a lot less.

the bbc changed their article from saying 'trans woman' to saying 'biological male who identifies as a woman'.

even if you don't care about trans ppl it should alarm you just how captured the bbc has become.

they will no longer even say 'trans woman'. that's not normal and shows massive bias.
