I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

Fascism is fundamentally based on disregard for bodily autonomy and consent, which is why fascism is so hospitable to pedophiles, rapists, and transphobes.

On a tangent note: I received a good math education in high school, with lots of proofs, and years later a classmate of mine who went on to law school said that he had an advantage over his peers because his experience helped him structure better arguments and interpret the laws more carefully
US students entering real analysis are *hammered* by having to work with proofs for the first time in their lives, when students from basically anywhere else have already seen and worked with proofs.

Periodic reminder that what's marketed as 'youth social media bans' actually amounts to requiring people to provide personally identifying information in order to access whatever content a given government disfavours.
The Australian social media age limit law has taken effect. At the time I made this post, I had not yet been age gated. Because the age gating will potentially invade my privacy to an unacceptable extent and may happen at any time, I may go quiet suddenly. If I do, this is why:
Tomorrow, 10 December 2025, the Online Safety Act 2021 (Cth) s 63E(2) will take effect. It will require social media platforms to take measures to ensure that they do not host accounts belonging to Australians under 16 years old. It will require them to do so by collecting Australian users' ID.

many people are going to be tempted to say this proves the weakness of peaceful protest. this is incorrect because it assumes this happening is a failure of peaceful protest rather than the mechanism by which it succeeds
It's hard to overstate how ell-organized the portland march that got gassed was... organizers made the crowd promise to be peaceful, said the march would slow in front of the ICE building but not stop, that we would stick to one chant (ICE Out). They did absolutely everything right and got gassed.

one of the key motions of protest is that it places the adversary in zugzwang: either they abide the protest, and look weak, or attack the protest, and look cruel

"Our standing rule is: If one of us brings up using GenAI in any of our work, then it's safe to assume we've been assimilated by The Thing and should be burned alive by Kurt Russell," said a game design consultant in the US.
Over 50% of game developers now think generative AI is bad for the industry, a dramatic increase from just 2 years ago: 'I'd rather quit the industry than use generative AI'
The latest GDC survey also found that managers are more likely to use generative AI than their employees.

I suppose in the future what's happening now may become known as "The Battle of Minneapolis," but I think--hope--it's historic precisely because it's not that. Fascism wants a fight. Instead, Minneapolis's main response is mutual aid. Struggle, in a deeper sense of the term than fascism can imagine.

A decade of trans advocacy has taught me people believe lies because they want to, not because they don't know they are lies. They believe trans people will regret our transition because they want us to regret our transition. They believe we are a "social contagion" because that is how they see us

So what you're saying is corporate executives are less skilled than an algorithm but hoard wealth and exploit workers with actual skills.
Here's a chart to chew on: white-collar workers say that AI saves them little or no time, but executives think it's a massive timesaver. This divide between employees and management is going to influence the future of the workforce.

there is a real lack of understanding of what “grace” is. grace is a gift. and like all gifts it should be received in gratitude. and that gratitude must include a sincere effort to repent and make recompense for what you’ve done. anything else cheapens the gift.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.
