I wish there was a precedent for what happens when a demagogue picks out a vulnerable minority group and labels them as subhuman. I wonder what the next step is and whether any innocent people get hurt. And I wonder whether the demagogue's followers go on trial when the whole thing is over.

There also became this notion that the job of a leader was to “get everyone home”. The mission came second (if at all). This creates an environment where any death is deemed preventable “if only we did X”

It’s actually good to adhere to LOAC when waging war amongst a population that will be part of any solution to the conflict. To state otherwise is an admission that you don’t understand the environment nor the ultimate purpose of why you’ve taken up arms.

Leadership vacuum filled by “leaders” who viewed others as sub-human. We’re witnessing the same but at the national level.
