Seeing bidets as a mark of excess luxury (both here and with Mayor Mamdani) always confuses me, because I bought mine at an overstock store for like $9. Seeing them sold for hundreds of dollars for what boils down to a bit of plumbing line with a pressure switch is so weird.

This whole thread is great, but I wanted to expand on this point: even if Starfleet cured *every* earthborn condition, they are always finding new diseases that they haven't found a cure for yet. That's like a quarter of the plot lines of every show!
2) They have a disorder for which there is no cure. Starfleet medical has *plenty* of things it can't wave a magic wand about, especially if they've survived something which *would* have killed them without Star Trek medical wizardry. This is the best case outcome.
