"More training" is code for "more money". Extirpate ICE.
The officer who shot Alex worked for DHS for 8 years. The officer who shot Renee worked for DHS for over 10 years. Both are considered “highly trained.”

The problem isn’t "training." DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity. We must MELT ICE and dismantle DHS.

I'm not going to ask if you're doomscrolling. Everything is hard right now. But you still need to eat some food, drink a glass of water, as well as time to rest and recover.

Try not to stay up too late tonight. Sleep deprivation will make everything you need to do harder, including helping others.

People at taken to Whipple are released into the cold in whatever they were wearing without their phones and IDs. Volunteers meet them at release (or find them left in parks and the woods) get them a burner, warm clothes, food, a ride home, etc

@governorwalz.mn.gov eviction moratorium! Now is the time to protect people.
there is only one actual person who has the power to act and even then it will be challenged in court, probably. the governor has to issue an eviction moratorium.

The thing about Minnesota Lutherans is that while the U.S. military can deploy a functioning Burger King anywhere in the world in 48 hours, your local Mainline Protestant church's women's committee can do it in under 36.
I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

CNBC says no senate vote on funding today due to the storm, and also that Repubs are not inclined to separate DHS funding from the bill (aiming for a shutdown that they can blame on Dems). Wherever you live, continue to pressure your senators to deny ICE funding & separate DHS from appropriations.

Minnesota has a brilliant tradition of political art (see: the crop art at the State Fair) and as a St. Paul resident who has participated in the Winter Carnival in the past this makes me furious.
I'm a resident of the Twin Cities. A small team and I spent 3 days sculpting this for a competition/festival in extremely cold temperatures. We were disqualified for political messaging and one of the organizers defaced it. I have no regrets and I have never been more proud to be Minnesotan. (cont)

Also, uh, we have more than 100,000 people registered for this ICE watch training tonight. Largest training of it type in history by a long shot. Please join if you've not be trained yet, and share to friends/fam/neighbors!
I recorded this week's newsletter in case you want to watch instead of read. Are we pro or anti Gadsden flag hat? On the one hand, I like reclaiming it. On the other hand, it's hard for me to shake my visceral response to it from the Tea Party days. ezralevin.substack.com/p/how-to-mak...

She didn't sing it to me in rhyming couplets ("if he'll drive you to the criming he's a fed *clap clap*) but the thrust was very similar: if someone shows up in your group wanting to do a lot of violence, assume that person is there to get you in trouble. This remains a good rule of thumb.

If you’re sitting in awe of how Minnesota moves, you need to start copy+pasting our movements onto your community.
Have you taken CPR/first aid training recently? Are you stocked up on first aid supplies? Eye wash?
Does your school/daycare have parent patrol watches organized already?
WE DON'T NEED YOU HERE...WE NEED YOU THERE. Getting ready now.

The whistles are fantastic. That tactic - and a TON of the whistles - came from a group of organizers & activists in Rogers Park, Chicago, where Bovino and his goobermensch were before coming here. This is a global resistance.
Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.
