Now I thought that said a lot about the cultural diversity from state to state and city to city in the US, but learned later it wasn’t so different everywhere else as nationalist movements emerged in the 19th century. We’re all wired to pair familiarity with love and that’s okay!

This actually reminds me of one of my fave undergrad classes: a seminar on Nationalism. First week we did a lil class survey over where we felt most attached to (or nationalist about so to speak) and the majority of us said our hometowns, next came state, next came country.

I think growing up in Philly, or any other great (debatable) sports town, we’re attached because sports are kind of politics of joy, and they feel bigger than us. It’s a labor of love even just as a spectator. That’s why it’s part of my identity and I don’t think that’s irrational either.

Here’s my take on Platner. If he wanted to be believed as REALLY have changed on these issues, he would’ve led with them. If you say “I used to be really fucked up, misogynist, glorifying Nazis, the whole piñata of white supremacy. Here’s how I got better.” But you have to own it FIRST.

(Yesterday) I put on some tunes and put more effort into my breakfast than usual. Kind of surprised that I felt some resistance bc I’m a very sentimental girl and this used to be very easy for me. It did prompt a positive mood shift tho!
