That jet turbine engines work at all (and explode as rarely as they do) is something of an engineering miracle.
Great read on the cumulative trillions of dollars of iterative engineering effort that has gone into developing the efficient, reliable modern gas turbine. It is an insanely complex technology featuring an unforgiving multidimensional tradeoff space

There are lots of worse people in this golden age of monsters and freaks and lunatics, but there few better examples of the empty, vapid, soulless nihilism of the moment than Jimmy Fallon bsky.app/profile/more...
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

Look at this absolute fucking dipshit.

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

I own both tube socks and NYC subway socks. The former were given to me by a former partner and the latter by my wife. My brand is strong.
Boss, during meting: "ok, wait, I gotta ask, Mike, what's going on with those socks?"
Me: "they've got the London Underground map. They're tube socks."

Two Bloomberg Intelligence notes this morning on BEVs very interesting. Chinese buyers are flocking to electric even as subsidies roll off, while in Europe price pressure on the entire market but BEVs especially make ICE-BEV price parity increasingly likely. BMW & Mercedes already at parity.

I'm developing a kind of cosmopolitan-chauvinism, I guess you could call it anti-feudalism, as a through line in my politics. The peasant-brained and the local landed gentry are the enemy. Sort of funny that this could describe being either rabidly capitalist or communist.

The median men's 10k time would only lose this footrace by about 60-70 seconds lolsob
Would media show up for me to race the Finch LRT on foot?

A new study on 40+ European countries found women increasingly want men to share child care and housework equally—but men's attitudes have barely budged. In countries where this gap was widest, both birth rates and female employment were lower. (1/3)

Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

Trump is experiencing "be sure that your sin will find you out" and I couldn't be happier for him.
It's almost impossible to make me feel sorry for Trump, but the sheer depth of his brokeness, combined with his age, the utter humiliation involved in this farce was making me legit sad.

I think part of What's Going On with billionaires is that the daily friction of interacting with normal people is part of what anchors people to the real world, and once you have enough money to buy your way out of the friction you can knock down a load-bearing column propping up your sanity.

If you’re mad about life being unaffordable, you should maybe look at how the requirement to own a car to live in #canada is being more and more explicitly forced on everyone.

Mortgage rates and fucking gas prices ain’t it buds. Your household needing to own 3 cars is more likely the problem.

This reminds me of a Prague hostel I stayed in in 2013, which was a *cavernous* room with roughly 20 single beds spread haphazardly throughout...and three pillows. It was marketed as a three-person room.
Oh shit waddup
