Exodus 8:2-6
"But if you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs...
The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your officials."

Brian Tan nails it. Just love your spouse, view them as a whole person with their own ambitions and goals, and celebrate their success, you absolute dipshits.

(You can point to a couple of specific game management decisions that maybe weren't optimal in 2018 and 2021, but every team makes mistakes in big games and you only sometimes get punished for them)

And the number of really good teams at both the World Cup and Euros is so high now that "consistently make it to semis and then take your chances" is probably the best any squad can realistically hope for - and England just haven't gotten a lucky diceroll yet.

I'm a fair-weather fan of the England national side but the transformation from 2002-era "tabloid-appointed World Cup Winners who hate one another oh fuck we've gone out in the last 16" to "some nice role-models who make you feel disappointed for losing in the semis" isn't a terrible trajectory.

You can't logic your way out of being burnt out. Unless you're me. Who should be able to do it and it's a personal failing that I can't

Constantly warring polities can only be the "but it might work for us" Arrested Development meme so many times in a row before someone innovates their way out of it.

Leftist genre fiction is often unreadable due to the author's refusal to show their leftism instead of tell it through Ayn Rand-length monologues.

(Kim Stanley Robinson is by far the biggest culprit, but this was also a big part of why Babel was IMO a dud)

I don't DNF books very often (my parents didn't raise a quitter), but I DNF'd A Little Life. Could only do so many pages of emotional torture porn.

Should have been clearer on my end - the BIA part of my original QT was more applicable to the Bank St. bus lanes than to the Gladstone/Gilmour bike lanes

(subsequent rounds of consultations + Council input often get those projects to better places, but it's really frustrating for the starting point to so often be so lacklustre)

Nice argument, unfortunately I have already depicted you as the soyjak doomscroller Bob and myself as the chad organizer Sensei Sergio.

The Centretown Gladstone/Gilmour bikelane and the current proposal for Bank St. bus lanes are both symptomatic of a broader problem, which is that City staff nearly always err on the side of "underwhelming" and often seem to think BIA whining (especially about parking) constitutes a formal veto.

I am glad the community is rallying to make the Gladstone/Gilmour bike lane as safe as possible. I will be channeling the feedback and advocacy to try and find some solutions with city staff. The file doesn’t go to council till January, so we have some time.

Why will this new Centretown bike lane have a detour?
While a downtown Ottawa bikeway along the corridor has been a long time coming, cyclists say a proposed route isn't the safest way.

Pound for pound, central Madrid might be the best part of any big city I've ever been to. Walkable, bikeable, transit-able, and alive without ever feeling overwhelmingly packed.

Totally fair (and I the above as someone whose Anglican church runs two soup kitchens + a women's shelter). I think the distinction I'd make is that Mainline charity tends to be project-based, whereas Ev+Pent charity/tithing is just "you're a member, you give us X% [usually 10] of your income".

(Judaism + Islam have quite strong charity/giving ethics and lean liberal as voting blocks, but the libs still get swamped on pure volume of shots)
aidanglc.bsky.social
This is one place where I think the religiosity gulf between the two camps really hurts the good guys. Tithing is built into the social expectations of Evangelical/Pentecostal Christianity in a way that it isn't in Mainline Protestant circles (let alone in nonreligious ones).
