Immodestly: Mainstream discourse blames the excesses of the right on liberals, the left, feminists, Black Lives Matter, affirmative action, environmental protection, and BIPOC and LGBTQ people. It's a way that the right is granted masculine prerogatives and the left feminine responsibilities...
The She Made Him Do It Theory of Everything
The rhetoric and logic of the abuse of power operates similarly at all scales, which is why I've found feminism such useful equipment for understanding authoritarians in public and political life. Bec...

I like this post but it stops short. It might be that building loads of flats in central London doesn't reduce rents much, but that means it's creating an enormous and growing stream of rents. It's a gdp factory as @ironeconomist.bsky.social and I have discussed previously. And we need that too.

TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that?

We’re going to be looking very strongly at the bourgeoisie, what they’re up to

once again grading and lamenting the disappearance of students' voices and students' work and their replacement by LLMs.

I hate this game of "am I grading ChatGPT or a person?"
Wrote up a little intervention post/explanation for my class about why using LLMs for trying to learn programming (as first time learners!) is bad and detrimental datavizf25.classes.andrewheiss.com/news/2025-11...

Asked about Tommy Robinson supporting her asylum plans Shabana Mahmood replies that "Tommy Robinson doesn't even think I'm actually English, so he will certainly not be supporting anything I've got to say."

But he is supporting what she's got to say. That was the point of the question

what I think Starmer Labour specifically shows is the utter perversity of governing as if you are in an election

when you have governing majorities, you will be judged in the next election primarily on whether people's lives have gotten better, and that should be your focus not issue messaging

"How about this one, it was forcibly ripped off the hand of a homeless Sudanese widow tearfully pleading that it was all she had left of her husband?"
The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

Them: I don't know why my ethics are under scrutiny here

Me: because when your role is effectively applied ethics, that is significant

Them: I never said I worked in applied ethics. I work in AI governance

They've really captured Marc Andreesen here
I've never been to Medelhavsmuseet before, despite 25 years in Stockholm. It is quite a small museum and not cheap, 160 kr for an adult (free for teens and children). There are interesting things to see there but even at a leisurely pace you can see everything in less than an hour, so not cheap.
