The proportion of GIDS patients who were prescribed blockers even at the most liberal times was about 15%. And that's just of those *discharged*, not including those who never completed assessment or never got an appointment at all.

But transphobes are convinced everyone who was referred got them.
Doctors, famous for having no problems giving trans people treatment
It's very simple: you struggled to access your bodily autonomy, and eventually got it, and trans people did the same. Now you're using the arguments that were used to harm you, to harm others. That last part I cannot make sense of.

It has certainly been a pretty bad few months for blokes called Andy in positions of power.

If you want to live under a king, you ultimately wish to be a slave to that person’s commands.

If you want to live under a democracy, you wish to be free to do anything that’s allowed under the law.

The people who want authoritarianism don’t feel confident enough to live with real freedom.

Just copying Facebook at this point
so the only age group that’s seen an increase in Twitter usage is 65+. Under 30 usage has decreased from 42% to 33% since 2023

The "people don't speed despite lack of enforcement" argument has always struck me as ridiculous. Speeding is incredibly common even with (inconsistenly applied) legal penalties! Do I think most drivers would speed if there were zero enforcement whatsoever? Yes, they absolutely would!

Imagine being turned away from a bathroom, hospital, or cinema for “not looking female enough”. The leaked EHRC guidance could do just that. Along with my Lib Dem colleagues, I’ve written to the Minister calling for new, inclusive, practical guidance that protects everyone’s rights.

Mostly just amused by the fact that Jeremy Renner is in this film playing a character, despite Glass Onion having established that Jeremy Renner also exists in the Knives Out universe as a real-life person.
Wake up dead man was p good but also it feels a lot more,,, serious? than the last two

It's also something of a bait-and-switch with polls here. "Falls" relative to what? Note there's no link or comparator in the tweet.

YouGov have used various different wordings for this kind of Q, but 54% support for gay marriage is pretty consistent with their polling going back years.
This is another widespread trope on Twitter at the moment. It’s ’the Queers went too far’ & includes strawmen arguments as in here (1) ungrateful Queer ppl & (2) in other cases, the inclusion of trans ppl in the community. It’s a ridiculously stupid & rightwing piece of rhetoric. Let’s examine it*

Remember that episode, and how ubiquitous it was for even those who weren't vitriolically transphobic to talk about trans people like they were purely a legal thought experiment rather than an actual group of people in society.
I remember several of her legal colleagues were shocked that one of their own should have an “intolerance” label on here.

It was a typical “not *one of us*, surely” private members club reaction.

Yes, one of yours. She’s awful.

Good to know that Badenoch thinks women who complain about misogyny are "wallowing in self-pity and whining".
The irony is that one of the reasons Harriet Harman decided not to pursue Badenoch for hacking her website was a belief that more black women in politics was a good thing. So, in a small but salient way, Badenoch owes her position to the very solidarity she now mocks.

Linehan graduating to overt homophobia was pretty predictable.
the reason tucker carlson, or any homophobe, thinks this: every once in a while, while watching porn, they get turned on by the guy. rather than just acknowledging that they construct some conspiracy about how it must be propaganda or a manipulation -- bcos they're terrified of being seen as gay/bi

It's a striking demonstration of plain reactionary incuriosity. No effort to empathise or understand, even in a "Yes, but..." sense, just base rejection of the legitimacy of people she disapproves of.
Perhaps the key moment came as Geissler suggested that if your child came out to you as trans your natural response would be to hug them and try to protect them, and Cunningham responded by talking about people wanting to amputate their legs. It was an extraordinarily heartless and selfish response.

Also kind of weird to include Zahawi given his tenure as Chancellor was basically nominal.
Ed isn't necessarily wrong here, but it's notable that Baron George Osborne of Gatley is missing from this circle.

That'll be because Ed served with him in the same government, and consistently toed the Tory line on austerity measures.

Happened in the late Soviet Union too - facsimiles were produced of Brezhnev, Andropov and Chernenko's signatures that senior party and state figures would just stamp on whatever they'd decided to do.

Q: Do you plan to attend Sarah's funeral?

TRUMP: I haven't thought about it yet, but it's certainly something I can conceive of. I love West Virginia. You know, I won West Virginia by one of the biggest margins of any president anywhere.

As blunt as it may seem, the reality is that for Americans to have a functional domestic or international setup for them requires that they simply stop electing Republicans.
An absolutely stunning chart:

It's the same with every system of official discrimination: the distinction between groups A and B is considered simultaneously innate, primordial and obvious but also requiring a huge and invasive legal and bureaucratic apparatus to codify and enforce it.
the status of the trans person in the terf brain is some Ur-Fascism deal: every trans person is so clockable that their very existence is ridiculous and offensive, but also anyone could be trans and you'd never know it

Honestly this, even more than various territorial demands on Ukraine, makes a peace deal basically impossible right now, because this isn't even something Ukraine can be *forced* to comply with, it's just a delusion in Putin's head.
