i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

Every day, I strive to be fundamentally honest at the level of the sentence.
I can't remember who it was reviewing whom & internet seqrch is broken but the phrase has stuck, calling a supposedly major USian writer "fundamentally dishonest at the level of the sentence." It's been my guiding star since: to be honest at the level of the sentence. And so many writers aren't.

Media literacy is down, so to be clear, when the WSJ writes “Ultimately, the fact pattern Meta relies on to meet its conflicting objectives strains credibility” about your accounting practices and runs an accompanying flowchart, that is the equivalent of a 500-foot neon sign reading “FRAUD”
This feels like one of those stories you're going to look at a year from now and say to yourself, "Why didn't I move more of my portfolio into cash?" **

One brilliant thing about Twitter was that for a lot of us, it made networking not networking.

You posted about what you were passionate about it, and it had more of a chance to get in front of someone relevant. It wasn't networking, it was caring about something in public.
I made friends with game developers. I did my own work. And it happened. That’s all there is.

Okay, so you're in your gmail, and you have a bazillion emails in your main inbox due to turning off smart features. What's the easiest way to go through them? Well you could go page by page.

Or...If you know specific companies send a lot of emails, there's a quick trick.
For my laptop, while I do have a good amount of free space to partition/separate to try out Linux, I should also make sure I don't have unnecessary files and games taking up space.

And for email. (stares at tab showing the number 58,287) I uh. Don't think I need to import EVERYTHING.

So overall...*Allegedly*, as of writing, google is not training GenAI on your emails.

It's still not a bad idea to be wary of updates full of technology you do not want, nor is it a bad idea to delete all those emails and relearn how to use filters and labels.

AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

Gladhanding fascists is a useful skill, I guess, but this is exactly why even people who believe in the current system shouldn't stan politicians.

Their main skill is saying what their audience wants to hear and making them believe it. That includes their opponents, and it includes you.

This exactly describes the various stages of grief I rapidly cycled through yesterday
I did this and hate it and also looked at emails I normally wouldn’t have looked at and some were interesting and I unsubscribed from others and it was a novel experience that harkened back to ye olde email time which felt strange and new and shitty and interesting all at the same time I feel weird

Huh. Okay.
If you don't trust Google then you probably shouldn't use Gmail, but the claim it's training AI on your emails and attachments has *no real source that i have been able to find whatsoever*

And they said on the record that it doesn't matter whether you have the smart settings on or not, they don't.

THIS is the story.

That the feds are spying on people doing completely legal stuff and characterizing them as “anarchist violent extremists.”

The story is NOT that you need to be afraid to court watch or patrol your neighborhood for ICE activity. DO NOT SELF-REPRESS.
"An FBI memo that claims 'anarchist violent extremist actors' are targeting law enforcement cites a private text message chat that included immigration court observers, raising questions about whether the spy agency is monitoring political activity, a copy of the document indicates."
