One thing that astonishes me about the Herzog visit is that Israel has murdered more journalists than any other state in the 21st century, and he hasn’t faced a single question about this (to my knowledge) from the Australian media

"social cohesion" is the "climate wars are over" of the late 2020s.

Labor doesn't want peace, or cohesion or actual societal improvement. It wants everyone to stop yelling at them.

It worked for the climate movement but it won't work for the anti-genocide movement.

Meanjin's former editor says that she and the journal's prior cultural and advisory literary board were not notified of QUT's acquiring the publication before the announcement today.
QUT revives axed journal Meanjin. Its former editor says she and its advisory board weren't consulted
Since Meanjin's closure, multiple foundations, university figures and organisations approached MUP to explore ways to save the journals, but these attempts were all rebuffed.

attending a protest = "antagonising police" is very literally and precisely the gaslighting doublespeak of the fascist Trump government. I really don't make that comparison lightly but this is systemic, deep institutional collapse

I can't help but feel like if the Liberals were in power, the outrage would be immense and very simple.

But bc Labor is in power at a federal and state level, the outrage is constrained and confused. ABC headlines are passive. They want to hate cops but don't feel like they can.

Speaking of the Norwegian red hats everyone is knitting: knitters have raised over $300k for MN by buying the $5 pattern.

And symbols (like red hats) are a vital part of any resistance movement. They are used to unite members and serve as a visible display of opposition to the regime.

Albanese must lead a strong response to the Boorloo Day of Mourning bomb attack.

After the horror at Bondi we saw that leadership on violence and racism is possible with political will.

The same urgency is needed on rising threats against First Peoples.

Australia popularised this in the early 2000s. It was against international law then and it still is now, but it has bipartisan support from our major parties.

Our camps are run by for-profit prison companies such as GeoGroup and Serco. Trans women have been put in male centers. All under Labor :)
TIL in the Netherlands they straight up put asylum seekers in a camp.

Racism is so entrenched in Australia that when someone throws a bomb into a peaceful protest, of 2000 First Nations Peoples and their allies, that we call it unacceptable instead of what it actually is, terrorism.

Fingers crossed the government approving some more coal mines & gas projects will help.

And if not, then surely the total obliteration of the systems which sustain life on Earth is a small price to pay if the already massively wealthy become insanely so?

Seems to be the most dramatic breakthrough in preventing/slowing dementia & alzheimer's ever. But it's a vaccine, so it doesn't get headlines.

Wish you could get the shingles vaccine before age 50. You don't have to be 50 to get shingles—I can attest as I had it last summer (not recommended).

The social media ban was always just the govt doing something to look like it was doing something.

That it was being pushed by media and FM hosts was a major 🚩

There is no success/fail test that the ban is being judged by, but we do have a shirt load of vibes.
