Some thoughts (and a HILARIOUS dogshit AI MTV tribute video) www.esquire.com/entertainmen...
MTV Is Still Alive. So Why Does Everyone Think It Shut Down Last Week?
Our ability to tell fact from fiction—even when the facts are right in front of you—is nearly gone. This is not going to end well.

some identify publicly with the left because they hate oppression, others because they hate being oppressed. things will make more sense when you keep in mind that these are not the same - or even similar

To some extent, every American is responsible for what America does by not influencing others to vote for the most harm minimizing candidate though we are obviously less responsible than people that did not vote or voted for the winning party.

Look at how much stronger putting the "Maduro sucked" bit second makes this
Mark Kelly puts out a statement saying "The President of the United States just overthrew a foreign ruler and explained to the American people that this is about taking control of the oil reserves of a foreign nation." This is probably the strongest statement alongside Gallego's I've read.

I’ve said this before but like, if you think that voters can’t be expected to suffer from the actions they consented to as adults with full personal agency, that is a *deeply* authoritarian view

i do think the fact that the situation room is tweets is fascinating, because it suggests an administration that is a) still struggling to "go around" its own institutions and b) an administration fucking *obsessed* with spectacle over substance
oh my god he posted so many action shots from the makeshift mar a lago situation room and they were just looking at tweets together on a gigantic screen

The split-screen here is unbelievable - first from yesterday, the others from 2017. Musk’s Twitter has truly driven us mad. People absorb far more of their beliefs from their social environment than they realize, and we’ve created an environment where being a gutter bigot is the baseline expectation

I suspect there is a high correlation between people who think apartments should never be sold individually (“we don’t need more condos, we need affordable housing,” meaning deed-restricted and owned by nonprofits) and people who believe single-family houses shouldn’t be rented out
A lot of Blueskiers are going to dismiss this observation because of the source, but it is correct. I'll just add that I don't think there's anything special about single-family homes that means they should never be rentals, any more than there's a rule that multifamily units should never be condos.

Men doing this whole “I will vanquish continents for my children” LARP is so goofy in the context of household surveys. It’s nice you’ll kill millions for your daughter, maybe we can start at doing a load of laundry for your wife who does the vast majority of household labor?

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

ultimately a lot of these guys have the personality trait where they encounter dipshit bullying (which is what a lot of anti-masking sentiment is) and their natural reaction is to make sure the bully thinks they are cool and shouldn't get lumped in with the rejects and losers.
Disappointed to see Jon Stewart & co joke about masking in public. I do it for my medically fragile daughter (Batten Disease). People not masking properly led to her getting pneumonia, which led to her being on life support, which led to me getting price quotes on her cremation just in case.

I asked a friend in the funding world early in the year: are any of the donor class actually still trying to fight Trump or are they split between switching sides and huddling in fear?

He said Soros and the Open Society Center was still in it to win it

this is a step in the right direction, but i do think we need to go further: valves you have to open, additional levers and cranks you can pull. Those toggle switches that have those big red covers on them that you have to flip up. Multi-key switches that require a second operator.
Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.
