When you think of it, No Nut November is edgy and harmful bullshit which never should have been invented and any proper dualist movement should seek to abolish it.

As we discussed at the time, the hilarious thing about thet was the rioters were people these commentators would cross the street to avoid, and refer to in a rather derogatory manner, somehow transformed into a True Volk

that this didn't work, despite a full court press and a corporate rebranding, I think, points to some pretty hard limits of the hype framework for understanding tech. it's useful, but probably shouldn't be central.

The ur-text is the Tom Utley column from about 20 years ago which went "my dad had a column in the times and I went to private school, now I've got a column in the times but I can't afford to send my kids to private school, what the hell is up with this bullshit"

The actual answer to that is "government funding" btw.
Odd how you never hear "We should run business like a university."
Especially since the original model for corporate charters was much more university-like: specifically justified for a public good.
the reason its bad to run universities like businesses is that almost all businesses fail on any reasonable timeline of evaluation.

Completely absent from the discussion here is what Blair actually wants to see done differently apart from some bobbins about carbon capture.

doomerism is a product of a bad combination in which irrational right-wing enthusiasm reinforces (and is reinforced by) left-wing pessimism
part of the reason i've got such contempt for the doomerism around "they don't think they'll have to win an election again" is that this belief — which i agree some of them hold — critically endangers the entire project, it doesn't strengthen it. they are incapable of shifting strategy or pivoting.
it is actually a major fucking political problem for this administration that they have key decision makers who believe the GOP will never have to win a fair election again

Every interview with a right-wing politician is like: "Mr. Hitler is adamant: If we sacrifice enough children, Santa Claus will come back and deliver 5% GDP growth. But I have to ask him: Do you ever worry that your relentless advocacy for working folks offends the rootless cosmopolitan parasites?"
I don’t get how Jenrick can actually believe that we should shrink the population and then start making more of our own things from pots and pans to what iPhones? How does he think that happens?

The essence of Blue Labour thought is that somewhere in Downing Street there is a button marked “reindustrialise” that Tony Blair could have pressed, but instead he opted for the “more Woke Studies” button.
My brother in Christ, reindustrialization is based on international capital flows, not dumbass ideas to move down the value chain by turning colleges into vocational schools. You do realize that modern industry is almost always *high* skilled automation?

Read your Michael Pettis, you utter clown.
No reindustrialising? Our academic institutions are a part of the problem, overproducing elites and funnelling them into bullshit unproductive jobs. Half the universities need to close or become vocational colleges. You didn't even mention productivity.

Brexit is in the past. That ship has sailed.
