every day that Heather Humphreys is not asked why she refused to meet with disability activists during the Scrap the Green Paper campaign is another day of ignominy for the Irish press. she's running on her record, yet she's not questioned on it any substantive way

When Steen was campaigning we were told that difference of views should be welcomed. But that was only about LGBT+ rights, Trans people, or abortion.

Not people like Paul Murphy getting a not guilty verdict or having a different opinion on the EU.

So just to clear up this week we've learned the following things are threats to democracy:

- Pleading not guilty in court
- The Bar's professional ethical standards
- Criticising the media
- Voting No on a referendum
- Paul Murphy

Political discourse in this country is a complete mess right now

it's definitely not actually based in Cyprus because the address of its "head office" is the address of LSTS, the Cypriot corporate services firm that also acts as Tri-Ant's company secretary

also it's actually spelled Tri-Ant on the corporate registry for whatever reason

the only person in the rogues gallery behind this "official" Spoil the Vote campaign I didn't recognise was this Aidan Joyce who strangely seems to be the driving force

anyway, he runs some kind of tech consultancy domiciled in Cyprus for whatever reason

There were about three days there where Americans (and inexplicably, Canadians?) were losing their minds under posts about an Irish presidential candidate, having somehow taken for granted that they could ONLY be talking about a US election that is years away and can I just say god help youse

so one of the things I’ve started to realize with having a notable following On Here is exactly how much of a reading comprehension problem we have in this country

there are real restrictions on freedom of speech in this country we could be talking about, ones that undermine both personal liberty and the strength of our democracy, but instead I am cursed to hear about one unpleasant family getting ejected from public events forever

this is all the Burkes do, btw, this is their entire gimmick. break rules and then claim the consequences are proof of their persecution. it's what they did when I was in college with half of them ten years ago, and it's what they do now

scarlet for the supposedly serious politicians thumping their chests because Elijah Burke got kicked out of a meeting for refusing to follow the standing orders

a lot of comment on Connolly doing podcast interviews to reach younger voters, but just as noteworthy imo is that she's doing loads of local radio interviews to reach older voters

This is how Fine Gael TDs are now presenting the United Nations. The proud Irish tradition of international multilateralism dragged through the mud for the sake of attacking Catherine Connolly. Surely some in Fianna Fáil object to this denigration of the legacy of Aiken. What a disgrace.

Alison Hyland, content editor at Tipp FM, senior producer at Tipp Today, and the presenter who interviewed Catherine Connolly on air last week, was public relations officer for Tom Hayes when he was a junior minister of agriculture in the FG / Lab government. just a fun fact

Is Alan Kelly trapped in an X-Files style episode where he keeps showing up at Tipp FM to say he isn't voting for Connolly?
deanbuckley.bsky.social
I'm not gonna lie, after spending a lot of last year trying in vain to get other journalists to pay attention to the mad shit getting spewed on Tipp FM, I am a bit pissed off they've apparently learned to tune in for every single time Alan Kelly attacks Catherine Connolly

removal is Coolmore's usual policy. as for whether this is okay or not, I'm just going by what I've heard from Alan Moore, John Hurley et al over the last year.

Notable from listening back to the This Week debate that Heather Humphreys no longer seems to be interested in making a positive case for voting for her. It's all just attacks on Connolly.

The party of law and order hates when Judges and juries disagree with them and also think once you're convicted and serve your sentence, you shouldn't be able to get a job.

also if you plead not guilty, you can never be considered rehabilitated
