Generations from now, when historians study this period where we have perfect understanding of the problem, and brilliant, readily available solutions with all the resources necessary to implement them, they'll study cases like this to try to figure out why we kept drilling holes in our lifeboat.

I'd forgotten that Fianna Fáil's slogan in both 2016 and 2020 was An Ireland for All. pretty funny to keep that for two election cycles, then get back into government and drop it for a slogan that sounds like someone putting on a brave face about their troubled marriage

it's otherwise completely useless rhetoric that appeals to none but the most thoughtlessly diehard members of their own parties, it doesn't make them look good and it rarely makes the opposition look bad, but boy does it kill some speaking time

like it is sincere in the sense that they are whiney hypersensitive babies who think any criticism of them, however mild, is a grave attack on their moral character, but it is also a tactic meant to disguise the fact they genuinely have nothing to say for themselves half the time
